What you'll be doing...

You'll be one of the Mechanical Engineering subject matter experts (SME) for all of the Verizon network facilities. In this role, you'll be the first line of support for Engineering/Construction and Network Assurance/Performance teams for all Mechanical System-related matters. As a Principal Engineer, you will be tasked with developing resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity. Additionally, you will also be conducting analysis of situations or data requiring an in-depth evaluation of variable factors and exercising judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. As one of Headquarters Engineering, Operations and Support (EOS) Mechanical Engineers, you'll be relied upon as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the Mechanical/HVAC systems at the Verizon network facility locations nationally.

  • Working within the Verizon project teams to review and comment on the design and specifications documents issued by the consultants, ensuring compliance with company standards.

  • Participating in Owner, Architect, Contractor (OAC) construction calls.

  • Supporting the Verizon Implementation (construction) team from Concept to Final Construction Acceptance.

  • Evaluating, piloting, and implementing emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML), close-coupled cooling, liquid cooling, and other emerging technologies.

  • Managing Verizon Corporate specifications, template drawings, company standards and directives as applicable to the various Mechanical systems.

  • Producting approvals when applicable with respect to direct purchasing of related Mechanical equipment.

  • Providing support during Outages and participate in post-mortem evaluations.

  • Serving as Verizon's Vendor Manager supporting Mechanical equipment and related components.

What we're looking for...

You're a technical expert with experience managing multiple medium to large projects at once. Cross-functional work is ideal for you, given your collaborative nature and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders across the organization. An individual who is highly organized and can make decisions that ensure Verizon's Mechanical systems meet the reliability demands of our wireless network. The ability to organize ideas and thoughts and present complex details in a way that is easy to understand. You will have a strong, customer-centric voice in assisting with and implementing our strategic roadmap.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant experience, required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Experience designing complex mission-critical Mechanical systems.

  • Experience with both design and construction review, contractor engagement, A/E firm interaction, etc. related to compliance with standards, contract documents, specifications, and associated requirements.

  • Proficient in software packages including but not limited to AutoCAD, Microsoft and Google Office products.

  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.

  • A valid driver's license.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer.

  • Experience with Cell Site Cooling Systems.

  • Experience with High-Density Data Center Cooling System Design.

  • Experience with Liquid Cooling System Design and Operation.

  • Experience evaluating and implementing AI (Artificial Intelligence)/ML (Machine Learning) applications for mechanical system optimization.

  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS).

  • Experience with fire protection and detection systems.

  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects across the Verizon Network (country).

  • Ability to organize and communicate complex design information to both technical staff members and laypeople.

  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours. The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $107,000.00 - $205,000.00. The annual salary range for the Colorado location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $118,000.00 - $205,000.00.
