Fresno VACCHCS & UCSF Fresno - Chief of Specialty Care

The VA Central California Health Care System (VACCHCS) and UCSF Fresno, located in Fresno, California, is seeking an outstanding and dynamic leader for the position of Chief of Specialty Care. VACCHCS delivers a comprehensive spectrum of patient care services, education, and research. Our facility offers primary, tertiary, and long-term care across a wide range of specialties, including primary care, subspecialty medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care. As an affiliate of the UCSF-Fresno Branch Campus, VACCHCS fosters a vibrant academic environment, providing postgraduate medical education and training for residents and fellows in various medicine subspecialties.

Position Overview:

The Chief of Specialty Care will oversee and direct all clinical, educational, and research functions within the Specialty Care service line. This leadership role includes the development and implementation of strategies to enhance specialty care services, fostering excellence in clinical outcomes, education, and scholarly activity.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Medicine and Philosophy (MD/PhD), or equivalent degree
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency program
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine or an Internal Medicine subspecialty
  • Eligibility for an unrestricted medical license in the United States
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Distinguished track record in clinical care, teaching, and scholarly/research activities
  • Experience in graduate medical education


For positions exclusively funded by the affiliate organization:

VACCHCS provided a reasonable salary estimate for this position $275,000-$375,000.

As a key partner of UCSF-Fresno, the Chief of Specialty Care will play a pivotal role in academic leadership, mentoring, and the advancement of specialty education and research initiatives.
