Oversees the Public Safety Program at the hospital, and its remote sites. This program is responsible for the personal safety of the staff, patients, and visitors; the protection of the rights of patients/clients with interactions to the legal system; the physical security of the premises; enforcement of a variety of Hospital policies as well as Federal and State Laws; parking issues and enforcement throughout the main campus and remote sites; and a variety of other safety issues.

Major Responsibilities:
1. The Manager is responsible for collaboration with all other hospital departments, community agencies including, but not limited to: fire, police, local building inspector, Town Administration, and the criminal courts, physicians, outside contractors, and any other entity dealing with Harrington with regard to personal and physical safety/security.
2. The Manager is responsible for participating in outside agency programs such as TriEpic.
3. The Manager is responsible for overseeing staffing levels of the Department of Public Safety.
4. The manager is responsible for ensuring skill levels of Public Safety staff through the maintenance and continued development of a staff education and competency program. The manager will also coordinate broad and/or specific training for hospital caregivers on topics including but not limited to as Active Shooter, De-escalation and Defensive Tactics.
5. The manager will chair a local Workplace Violence Committee made up of hospital leadership and various caregiver representatives throughout UMMH Harrington. The manager will also participate in a UMMH system level WPV Committee.

License/Certification/Education:
Required:

1. Associates' Degree or equivalent experience required.
Experience/Skills:

Required:
1. 2 years prior supervisory/management experience.
2. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide effective participative leadership and be able to deal with the general public.
3. Must be able to work under sometimes stressful conditions while maintaining a calm composure.
4. Strong analytical skills required to perform various data analysis techniques, review statistical and budgetary information, and synthesize information appropriately.

Preferred:
1. 3 years prior supervisory/management experience.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
