Journeyman - Welder Tig/Stick

Job Summary

Responsible for the layout, assembly, installation and repair of various types of piping systems. Installs these systems according to specifications and appropriate trade and building codes. These systems may consist of pipes, fittings, piping systems, fixtures and equipment for heating, cooling gas, steam, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial processing systems.


Essential Duties

  • Sets up equipment and weld parts using a variety of welding machines including arc, submerged arc, gas-shielded arc, mig, and tig machines.
  • Selects type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications, knowledge of system operation, and study of building plans / working drawings. Meets and maintains quality and production standards for all work product.
  • Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using a range of hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, and screwdrivers.
  • Maintains the work area in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations (should support implementation of 6S). Maintains required personal tools, and properly uses all Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and safety equipment.
  • Ensures the proper recording of time spent on individual work orders is accurate. Keeps the foreman and other key project personnel aware of all issues affecting production, schedule and cost. Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the foreman. Notifies supervisor of equipment malfunction, and performs operator based maintenance as required.

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or GED. Additional certifications in welding or related fields are a plus.

Must be certified to weld using material types such as black iron, stainless and aluminum (Level II).

Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Journeyman Welder required, with 4+ years preferred.

Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures.

Experience in using electrical or manual tools.

Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.

Detail oriented with good organization skills and proven ability to initiate priorities based on general guidelines.

Knowledge of relative safety standards.
