Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year. The college is a recognized leader in career and transfer preparation, workforce training initiatives, distance learning and service to a diverse population of students. Hudson Valley has an extension center in Malta, NY known as HVCC North and sponsors the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center in Troy, NY. In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master's Degree in a relevant field and a minimum of one (1) year but two (2) years preferred of experience in fundraising, membership development, business development or sales which should include a broad exposure to various components of an advancement operation including annual campaigns (unrestricted and restricted), major gifts, alumni relations, legacy giving, special events, marketing and communications is required. Must demonstrate a proven track record of cultivating one-on-one relationships with potential donors, including soliciting and closing leadership-level annual and major/capital gifts. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, working knowledge of donor database software, Raiser's Edge experience is preferred. First-hand knowledge of the local and national philanthropic community is preferred. Experience managing grassroots campaigns and volunteers, and time spent in a small development office highly desired.
Nature and Scope of Duties:
The Director of Development and Donor Relations reports to the Chief Advancement Officer/ Executive Director or designee and performs the following duties:
1. Works with the CAO/Executive Director to develop and facilitate best-practice annual and long-term multi-approach fundraising strategies, plans and campaigns designed to raise both unrestricted and restricted funds to meet goals in support of Foundation initiatives.
2. Cultivates, solicits and stewards a large donor/prospect portfolio informed by relationship building and data to develop steady revenue streams and a pipeline that expands numbers of donors and increases gifts, meeting established fundraising goals. This includes extensive networking, establishing a President's Circle, Legacy Giving Society, Employee Giving Program, and any other creative initiatives.
3. Manages the scholarship portfolio- ensuring any necessary compliance and best practices. Soliciting scholarship gifts, stewarding scholarship donors, overseeing that fund agreements are properly executed, filed, up to date and maintained, working with Advancement Operations to create a schedule of annual reporting of status to donors of endowed funds. Working with the Scholarship Committee to select awardees. Collaborating with Student Success and other departments to award student emergency funds as resources may allow. Collaborating with college departments for departmental awards and any other scholarship/awards programs as may arise. Overseeing coordination with Financial Aid to ensure the timely disbursal of scholarships and awards. Supervises the Scholarship/Social Media Coordinator.
4. Leads Alumni Engagement, working with the Alumni Committee to develop and facilitate strategy to engage and connect alumni to the college. This includes producing alumni newsletters, coordinating alumni events and creating other plans to significantly increase alumni participation and giving.
5. Researches relevant non-governmental grant opportunities, writing grant applications and renewal requests and submitting grant reports as needed.
6. Serves as staff to the Alumni and Development Committees of the Foundation Board, coordinating meetings and committee communications, preparing the agenda with the committee chairs, ensuring that minutes and reports are submitted in a timely way.
7. Leads and/or oversees the planning and execution of Foundation events including the annual Gala, Golf Outing, Leadership Donor Reception, Distinguished Alumni Breakfast, and Scholarship Reception and any others that may arise.
8. Manages the property maintenance schedule for the Alumni House. Oversees any necessary coordination between the Foundation and the Office of the President regarding the house, and any official meetings or events taking place there.
9. Represents the Chief Advancement Officer/Executive Director in their absence on campus and in the community.
10. Performs additional tasks as assigned.
This is a 12-month, Full-Time position with a salary range of $65,000-$75,000.
