Position Purpose
The Sustainability Program Assistant develops and oversees implementation of programs for the Sustainability Office, especially those focused on career preparation, using our campus as a lab, and community building. The Sustainability Program Assistant plays a critical role in the guidance, mentorship and development of student leaders and in relationship building and collaboration with partners at Dartmouth and beyond.
This Program Assistant will supervise Sustainability Office internships, helping students identify and prioritize next steps within projects, providing feedback and training when necessary, and supporting students in relationship building on campus to accomplish their goals and build career skills. This position will be responsible for the development and implementation of a first-year program to develop skills for institutional change and project management while building a strong foundation of community for their time at Dartmouth.
Finally, this position will support communications, events, and other Sustainability Office administrative needs as assigned and will actively contribute perspective and critical thinking to office program development and strategic planning. These responsibilities make this position a key role in making Dartmouth a leader in sustainability action, thought, and education.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies or related field required.
  • Previous experience organizing events.
  • Experience in the implementation of sustainability initiatives, campus initiatives and/or environmental projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Dartmouth Sustainability Office student programs, initiatives, and past events. Proven ability to work as part of a fast-paced, innovative team.
  • Excellent ability to prioritize, and to manage multiple projects, and people.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive, solution orientation.
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion and independent judgment.
  • Must have a valid US driver's license and must remain in good standing as a Dartmouth approved driver.
  • Commitment to diversity and to participation in a community of inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic communication tools, various social media platforms, and Google & Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to adapt personal and professional schedule to the College's year-round calendar.

Description
Developing Student Sustainability Change Makers


  • Work with Assistant Director to support development and implementation of collaborative experiential learning programs.
  • Manage the Sustainability Action Program, our first-year design thinking and skill-building program.
  • Supporting management of the Sustainable Living Center (SLC), including supporting student interns and developing a midterm and long term strategic plan for the SLC.
  • In partnership with the Dartmouth Center for Career Design, support development and deployment of the Sustainability Consultancy Program, in which student interns apply sustainable systems and design thinking principles to real world challenges on Dartmouth's campus.
  • Manage student intern teams working on career development programs, Climate Collaborative initiatives, and events (SD, Senior interns, etc.).
  • Provide career exploration support to students, including the senior intern cohort, the Dartmouth Climate Careers Community, and the potential development of mentorship programs.

Sustainability Communications


  • Creative communications - telling our stories in new and compelling ways to engage a wider audience and invite new people into our community, with a particular emphasis on historically underrepresented backgrounds and identities - climate change disproportionately impacts marginalized communities, and confronting it will take all of us at the table.
  • Leverage our social media presence to inform our students and increase participation in programs.
  • Support weekly updates of website, newsletter, and weekly events mailings.
  • Work with student interns to design creative marketing for sustainability programs.

Community Outreach


  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with key campus partners and off campus partners.
  • Serve as a liaison and key partner with Sustainable Hanover, Town of Hanover, Upper Valley Climate Adaptation Working Group, and other local and regional collaborators.
  • Support community outreach and engagement related to geo-exchange and energy program development.

Description
General Office Programming Support


  • Support perennial programs like Experience Dartmouth, Sustainability Community Lunches, office hours, Dimensions, Sustainable Moving Sale, and other events.
  • Engage in, and sometimes facilitate, strategic planning discussions about Office growth, strategy, and assessment.
  • Develop, test and implement administrative systems including project tracking software and management of the office administration.
  • Serve as an enthusiastic resource to student, faculty, and staff collaborators.
  • Contribute to innovative ideas that expand Dartmouth's impact in solving sustainability problems.
  • Provide additional support for Sustainability Office communications, events, and administrative tasks including responding to inquiries via email and office phone, booking spaces & catering for events, picking up event supplies, and helping produce content for social media postings and blog posts.
  • Be a positive, solution oriented, supportive and collaborative team member.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
