CAS is currently seeking a Data Scientist Intern for Summer 2026. This position will be located at our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

Position Summary:

Data scientists are passionate about data and applying analytical methods while simultaneously understanding the business context to arrive at a solution. They add business value by leveraging vast quantities of data and building accurate mathematical models. Data scientists are skilled in putting well-defined parameters around potentially ambiguous problems, evaluating success based on business-critical criteria, and applying modern artificial intelligence techniques to solve complex business problems. CAS data scientists routinely work with chemistry, life science, and materials science data sets. The Internship will run May 18th, 2026 - August 7th, 2026.

Job Accountabilities:



  • Develop, plan, and execute analytical projects in the chemistry, life sciences or material sciences domains
  • Synthesize analytical findings for consumption by business partners within CAS
  • Participate in multiple, assigned research projects as an individual contributor or as part of teams
  • Organize data from many different types of sources and at significantly varying scales for subsequent analysis
  • Critically evaluate data for quality measures such as completeness, accuracy, and applicability, applying understanding of relevant research area nomenclature
  • Solve unusual problems using a combination of appropriate statistics, machine learning, and computational methods
  • Create technical reports and presentations, describing results with visualization in a manner that the client can understand
  • Present research results to clients and participate in scientific conferences, peer review panels, and increase company visibility through publications
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:



  • Pursuing a degree in Cheminformatics, Bioinformatics, Material Informatics, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or Industrial Engineering (Senior status as of Fall 2026)
  • Experience with Python or R, and SQL
  • Demonstrated analytical, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and planning skills
  • Ability to interpret reports, analyze trends, and provide insights
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in an open, agile environment as well as independently
  • Experience working with chemistry, life science, and/or materials science data preferred, but not required
