Reporting to the Sr. Director, Access Strategy, the role of Director, Access Strategy - HIV Prevention is responsible for the development and maintenance of integrated US market access strategies, payer marketing activities, and customer engagement tactics with public & private payers in the US for both in-market product(s) and pre-launch pipeline assets specific to HIV Prevention (PrEP). This position is an integral role within the US Market Access function and involves significant levels of matrix management to influence stakeholders and manage priorities as well as cross-functional teamwork to assess the external environment, derive customer insights, and develop tailored strategies & tactics across payer segments and amid a dynamic US payer landscape.

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize integrated payer value propositions that communicate value aligned to the needs of population-based decision makers across the product lifecycle

  • Lead initiatives to identify insights and understand the clinical, economic and societal value elements that align to payer decision criteria and motivations

  • Develop and implement branded and unbranded payer strategies, resources, and tools that support strategic account management and non-personal customer engagement

  • Collaborate within and beyond market access to bring stakeholders along, simplify the complex and elevate organizational market access acumen and understanding

  • Partner with strategic pricing, contracting and reimbursement to optimize understanding of the customer landscape and integrate price into the overall value narrative

  • Support training of all customer-facing teams (payer field team, field sales, FRMs) on market access topics for aligned products

  • Transparently communicate about the access landscape and support the cross-functional triaging of access and reimbursement issues

  • Partner with US Health Outcomes on evidence generation planning throughout the product lifecycle to validate relevant value messages and support payer customer needs

  • Supervise, coach, develop and evaluate direct report(s) including normal and customary supervisory responsibilities such as budget management, performance evaluation, coaching, development, recruitment, etc.

  • Demonstrate superior interpersonal skills with ability to lead, influence, and gain alignment cross-functionally

  • Set priorities and provide clear recommendations in complex and ambiguous circumstances

  • Lead and manage agency and vendor relationships

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor's degree & 5+ years of US-based pharmaceutical industry experience in market access OR marketing OR commercial roles

  • Experience in commercial and public payer customers (i.e. PBMs, MCO, employer, Medicaid, Medicare) and the dynamics affecting the payer including industry trends, payer and channel economics, and public policy/ government regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Graduate to Post Graduate Degree level (e.g. master, PhD) or equivalent experience

  • Experience in or understanding of the HIV therapeutic area

  • 3+ years of experience in Market Access

  • Strong business acumen and experience developing payer and segment specific marketing insights

  • Strong B2B strategic thinking skills and demonstrated ability to translate customer (payer), competitive, and environmental insights into commercial strategy and tactical plans

  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to understand both data (quantitative) and market research (qualitative) results, draw conclusions, and make decisions at pace

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal & presentation) with the ability to succinctly communicate complex information and present effectively to large groups and senior leaders

  • Strong interpersonal skills required with proven ability to develop and maintain trusted relationships, work well in cross-functional teams, and to lead & influence across matrix organizations (including influencing without authority)

  • Demonstrated learning agility with a high level of curiosity and motivation to manage complexity and solve problems in ambiguous environments

  • Proven ability to translate strategic direction into action plans, manage competing priorities, and foster organizational alignment under tight timelines

  • Experience working with and managing external agencies

  • Knowledge and understanding of the compliance and regulatory environment including programs designed to educate payers on drug safety and appropriate use (FDAMA 114, pre-approval information exchange, etc.)

  • Demonstrated leadership experience (leading a team with direct reports, and/or significant enterprise/matrix leadership)

  • Experience managing, motivating and coaching direct reports
