Our Arts Division is seeking to hire a part-time Sculpture Studio Instructional Specialist. This position is a short-term opportunity through June 30, 2026, for someone who seeks experience in an academic sculpture facility while working toward future personal goals.

Required Education:
Two (2) years of post-secondary education or training with course work in Sculpture (or related subject).
Required Experience:
Two (2) years of studio experience with substantial public contact or teacher's aide experience.
Licensure or Certification Requirements

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS










Preferred Education
Bachelor's Degree or higher in art studio with an emphasis in Sculpture and knowledge of 2D and 3D art techniques, process, and studio production.
Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Community College studios and curriculum.
  • Experience in welding, wood shop, clay mixing/firing, foundry, stone carving, and glass casting.
  • Experience with digital imaging (Fusion 360, Photoshop, Illustrator, V-Carve Pro, Blender, SketchUp, Sheetcam, Aspire, etc.)
  • Experience with 3D digital I/O devices (3D printers, 3D scanners, Laguna CNC machine, Glowforge etc.).
  • Experience with contemporary sculpture methods, materials, and equipment.

Position Purpose:
Provides specialized instructional and technical support to sculpture faculty including direct assistance to students, as well as oversight, maintenance, organization and safety of the studio space.
Essential Functions:
Administrative

  • Manage sculpture studio spaces, equipment, and supplies.
  • Develop and implement sculpture studio policies.
  • Work with sculpture faculty to coordinate supervised open studio scheduling in the facilities.
  • Serves as site supervisor, trainer and coordinator to multiple student workers in the Sculpture Studio, having a direct influence over the work that is prioritized and performed.
  • Serves as community liaison for donations of equipment and materials.


Instructional Support

  • Work closely and cooperatively with faculty teaching in the studios.
  • Provide technical advice, answer questions, and resolve issues for students.
  • Prepare and set up the studios according to needs of courses utilizing the studios.
  • Research and develop new tools, materials and processes.

Maintenance / Facilities

  • Maintain studio and equipment, making minor repairs.
  • Demonstrate, monitor, and enforce all studio practices and safety protocols.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Laguna CNC Router and Maslow CNC.
  • Oversee access for those qualified to use the studio (students, faculty, visitors, and staff).
  • Expedite and monitor orders for major repairs of equipment.
  • Manage inventory and organize supplies.
  • Order supplies and arrange for pick-up and unloading of supplies as necessary and in advance of expected use.
  • Oversee, direct and assist students in clean-up of work areas.
  • Demonstrate the appropriate use of the space.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the students, instructors, and staff.

Other

  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Dean of Arts or other supervisor. Faculty may train, assign work, provide priorities and be available to troubleshoot problems on a daily basis. Work is performed independently using specialized experience and training. Work is reviewed for the quality of assistance provided. This position may have responsibility to assign tasks, provide priorities and train student assistants, volunteers and hourly employees.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
Requires ability to lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds as required by the position, use power hand tools, and perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Work safely.
