Position Summary

The Consumer Underwriter analyzes, evaluates, and approves/denies consumer credit applications in accordance with regulatory guidelines and Simmons Bank consumer lending policy and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for analyzing, evaluating, and approving consumer credit applications
  • Inputs credit information into the bank's loan origination system for analysis and evaluation
  • Reviews and verifies supporting documentation provided by the lender/banker to ensure all necessary information is included to evaluate for approval; request additional information as needed
  • Verifies employment and stated income on loan application
  • Calculates debt to income and loan to value ratios (if applicable)
  • Communicates with lenders/bankers regarding credit decisions and loan information making sure all decisions are well documented in the loan origination platform
  • Ensures all departmental documents and activities are performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Completion of required compliance training.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memorandums.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports and/or legal documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to respond in writing to customer complaints, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
  • Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or its equivalent is required, and
  • 4-6 years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training.
  • Computer Skills
    • MS Office programs
    • Jack Henry Platform
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    • None
  • Other Qualifications (including physical requirements)
  • Knowledge of the credit requirements and features of consumer loan products offered by the bank.
