Position Summary

DEFINITION Under general supervision of appropriate administrator, assists faculty in the preparation and delivery of instruction and skills training to students enrolled within a designated academic area of the Public Safety Training Department. Values and promotes the mission and vision of the college.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS A non-teaching position that assists faculty in reinforcing and illustrating course concepts and skills that are delivered in classrooms, labs, and simulated real-life environments. The position may also assist in fortifying safety protocol, in planning and implementing emergency response exercises/scenarios, and in demonstrating the safe use of vehicles, specialized equipment and training props. Assists in supporting and strengthening lectures, course objectives, student learning outcomes, and the strategic direction of the department. Requires advanced oral and written communication skills and technical knowledge in the subject area(s) assigned, and a background in experiential learning.

Essential Functions and Qualifications

- Assists in the preparation and delivery of instruction and skills training.
- Prepares and assembles materials/equipment/props for presentations and other instructional activities.
- Assists in the preparation of classroom materials as needed.
- Monitors the safe and proper use of equipment, tools, and devices.
- Coordinates program inventory, storage, distribution, and maintenance of discipline related equipment; provides technical assistance and recommends specifications for equipment and instructional material purchases.
- Leads drill and ceremony activities/formations/inspections.
- Provides assistance to students and instructors in the preparation of props and equipment for campus tours, visitations, and outreach events.
- Works as a collaborative and contributing member of a professional team; serves as a role model for students; exemplifies and emphasizes the values, ethics, and high standards required of public safety personnel.
- Ensures all clinical documentation for students are correct, i.e. drug tests, background checks, vaccination records, and CPR cards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of training techniques and instructional methodologies;
- Requirements and regulations of governing and certifying agencies;
- Principles and practices of effective leadership.
Demonstrated ability to:
- Learn, interpret and apply district, program, and courses rules and regulations;
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action;
- Maintain accurate and complete records;
- Utilize computer equipment and technology for record keeping and instructional purposes;
- Understand and carryout oral and written instructions.
Working Conditions:
- Duties will be performed in an indoor and outdoor environment.
- Operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
- The incumbent will experience interruptions while performing normal duties during the regular workday.
- The incumbent will have contact, in person, by email, by video conferencing, or on the telephone with staff and the general public.
Physical Demands:
- Typically may stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Operates a computer.
- Communicates over the telephone, by email, and in person.
- Regularly lifts, carries and/or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Special Qualification:
Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Education and Experience: Equivalent to an associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public safety technology or a related field OR graduation from high school or its equivalent AND two years of full-time paid experience within a public safety agency.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Shall complete required safety course as outlined in the Injury Illness Prevention Plan.
- California EMT License or National Registry Card for EMT is required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Card, instructor card is preferred.
- Valid Class C driver's license for the ability to qualify for District insurance for operation of district motor vehicles.

The desired start date is October 2025. This is a full-time, 37-hour, classified, 10-month position. Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. To be considered for this position, the candidate must submit the following application materials by Wednesday, September 17, 2025 by 11:59 PST:
