Utz Quality Foods is currently seeking a Head of DSD Operations to support our California business. The Head of DSD Operations leads the warehouse teams, overseeing all day-to-day DSD operational practices for Utz's Sales Distribution Centers, ("DCs"), in assigned regions to ensure that daily goals and corporate objectives are met. This position works with the sales operations and supply chain teams to ensure the Right Product at the Right Place at the Right Time while controlling inventory accuracy and overall warehouse costs.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Oversees DSD warehouse operations for all assigned Sales DCs.
  • Ensures assigned locations have sufficient staffing at all times. Ensures that coverage of warehouse operations in the event of distribution center supervisor or employee vacations, sick leave, termination, or other absences are planned and assigned.
  • Supervises, trains, coaches, and mentors the Warehouse Lead associates to operate the DCs efficiently, providing exceptional customer service to the sales operations team and our external customers, including Independent Operators, Distributors, etc.
  • Resolves issues, such as inventory counts at any assigned location. When needed, elevate any issues to the VP, Sales Distribution and Effectiveness and the Sales Center of Excellence, COE, and Direct Store Delivery, DSD, Supply Chain Services teams for assistance.
  • Ensures distribution center warehouse areas are secured at all times from entry by non-DC personnel unless accompanied by warehouse staff.
  • Ensures all DCs meet or exceed Utz's standards for warehouse safety and cleanliness. Promotes and implements a culture of occupational and food safety at all locations, partnering with the Safety team. Implements company required safety protocols and safe practices.
  • Maintains and ensures accurate inventory for all assigned DCs:

    • Monitors product rotation and utilization of warehouse space, ensuring that warehouse layout is efficient.
    • Maintains adequate non-zero inventory at all sites while maintaining inventory levels at target goals.
    • Ensures required cycle or full inventory counts are conducted as scheduled.
    • Resolves inventory variances as soon as they arise.


  • Acts as key liaison between sales warehouse leads and warehouse personnel to deliver consistent and accurate information.
  • Evaluates individual performance and provides retraining and coaching to ensure performance standards are met.
  • Supports Vice President of Sales Distribution and Effectiveness to implement and improve operational procedures to drive cost savings and overall service.

    • Monitors effectiveness using Key Performance Indicators, KPIs, and implements improvements to optimize efficiency and effectiveness (cost per case, cases per hour, overall profitability).
    • Initiates process improvement and provides advice and recommendations to the team.


  • As a people leader, prioritizes and manages multiple tasks while collaborating with and sharing technical knowledge and best practices with the DC teams.
  • Monitors Budget and labor expenses to goal
  • Evaluates individual performance and provides training to ensure performance standards are met.
  • Works proactively in a cross-functional team with diverse groups of people.
  • Works with management and associates to ensure Food Safety programs are followed.
  • Reports food, office or operational safety problems to a supervisor or manager to initiate action.
  • Salary Range: $70-$99k


Requirements:



  • Bachelor of Science degree in business administration or related field and/or equivalent experience preferred. Courses in supply chain management, materials management, logistics, production planning or equivalent preferred.
  • Capable of leading and empowering a team -- excellent coaching skills, encouraging collaboration, motivation, and enthusiasm. Strong sense of urgency.
  • Detail oriented, organized, reliable, and resourceful.
  • At least 10 years of warehouse/logistics experience preferably in a leadership capacity in a food distribution environment, food products or CPG industry
  • Deep understanding and hands-on working knowledge of the internal functions of distribution logistics, inventory management, and supply chain operations.
  • Strong Microsoft software expertise (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project). Experience with hand held computer system or scanner is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the warehouse system and distribution procedures. Experience with an integrated ERP system.
  • Experience with inventory control system including wireless hand-held devices.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations.
  • A valid driver's license, good driving record, and a DOT medical card or the ability to obtain a DOT medical card.
