About the Opportunity The Assistant Vice President for State Authorization reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. This individual will (1) work with non-public and out-of-state institutions seeking to offer post-secondary degree programs in North Carolina and for religious and military institutions seeking exemption from the requirements of licensure, (2) lead all aspects the authorization and licensure process, to include forming and leading Teams of Reviewers as the ex officio member of the Team, and prepare reports regarding licensure, (3) monitor changes in state law and federal law regarding state authorization and propose revisions to the Board of Governor's policies on state authorization when required, (4) determine which applicants for licensure meet the state's requirements and make recommendations to the Board of Governors that those applicants be licensed, (5) serve as the System Office's primary staff person for the UNC State Authorization Network, and the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), (6) serve as the primary state authorization contact for the Advisory Council for the State Board of Proprietary Schools, for the UNC constituent institutions, for accreditors, Federal Student Aid, other regulatory bodies, and law enforcement agencies (7) manage the financial and budgetary aspects of the licensing and state authorization operation, (8) form and lead teams, as required, for 2/6 year follow-up visits are required by statute and regulation, (9) supervise all part-time and full-time staff. This position is a hybrid work arrangement requiring regular travel. Day travel is anticipated several times per month and overnight travel at least once per month. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station. About the UNC System Office

About the Team Academic Affairs leads in the development and implementation of the academic mission of the University, to include: advising the President and Board on academic affairs issues of University-wide importance; leading strategic academic planning and the implementation of resulting policies; collaborating with chancellors, chief academic officers, and faculty on University-wide academic initiatives; and, implementing the academic portion of the University's strategic plan.
