Performs routine work in the repair and general maintenance of facilities, buildings, and equipment. Troubleshoots and addresses basic repairs and maintenance including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, glazier, and painting tasks. Orders parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers, or obtains them from storerooms. Records maintenance and repair work performed and associated costs. Handles moderately complex issues problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 7:30a-4p MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Under general supervisor installs, repairs, and maintains a wide variety of facility systems.
  • Receives written and verbal information for each job order and selects methods, material requirements, and supplies based on quality and price.
  • Evaluates equipment or systems for hazards, need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on appliances including toasters, cookers, dishwashers, and dryers.
  • Replaces fixtures, light sockets, bulbs, and switches.
  • Repairs light plumbing, toilets, sinks, fixtures.
  • Cleans and maintains, A/C units, HVAC vents, replaces filters and general maintenance/repairs of HVAC equipment.
  • Completes service order forms, details work performed, duration, and materials used.
  • Interprets diagrams or blueprints to plan new or modified installations.
  • Utilizes Boys Town vehicle to transport supplies and equipment to work locations.
  • Ensures work areas are cleaned and addresses maintenance related incidents (e.g., spills).
  • May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of a broad range of construction and remodeling practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Mathematical skills to calculate specifications and costs.
  • Ability to read blueprints and to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals in an articulate, professional manner.
  • Ability to organize assigned tasks for completion.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience, including apartment and/or general maintenance required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record required.
  • Pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.
  • On-call (continuously or rotationally) to provide support required.
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Position requires moderate to heavy physical activity having to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance. Involves frequent walking, standing, reaching, bending, and climbing a ladder.Work in difficult locations such as crawl spaces, attics, roofs, and closets with exposure to electrical currents. May work at heights of 10 feet or more. Time may be spent outdoors where temperatures may vary from excessive heat to extreme cold or in a shop environment, which includes dust, noise, and some discomfort due to temperature.
