Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager directs the financial affairs of the organization and prepares financial analyses of operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management and the board of directors. The position involves supervision over general accounting including AR/AP, property accounting, and cost accounting in support of the VP of Finance and Accounting.

Essential duties and responsibilities (3-5 core functions representing 80% of time spent):

  1. Responsible for the development, analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of business operations.
  2. Oversees and manages Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and ensures tasking is completed.
  3. Responsible for overseeing and directing physical inventory counts as well as weekly/monthly cycle counts.
  4. Responsible for evaluating the performance of personnel in the Accounting Department.
  5. Recommends training requirements ensuring the staff is operating at the highest level of skill necessary to meet company needs and objectives and makes hiring recommendations as well as terminations.
  6. Maintains the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.
  7. Assists the preparation of the annual budget and financial forecasts, as well as institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures (including cost accounting system) and analyzes and reports variances.
  8. Assists in preparation/filing of all tax, regulatory, payroll and other applicable taxes.
  9. Responsible for implementation and maintenance of all accounting internal controls.
  10. Assist in the month-end processes as well as the year-end audit.
  11. Must wear all protective equipment required by department.
  12. Must follow all company policies and procedures including departmental safety policies.
  13. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Minimum education, experience, training, licensure, certification):

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with 3-5 years' experience working with a non-profit with experience in grants and healthcare.
  2. Requires knowledge of finance, accounting, customer service, accounts receivable, and collection processes. Must have knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
  3. Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local financial regulations.
  4. Must have 2 or more years working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software package.
  5. Experience with Sage a plus.
