Department OverviewThe Field Service Organization (FSO) is dedicated to implementing and maintaining advanced technical communication systems for customers. This includes, but is not limited to, deploying, optimizing, and repairing infrastructure, NICE public safety loggers, 911/ECW/Airbus equipment, subscribers, microwave systems, computers, servers, and network equipment for both internal and external Motorola operations. The FSO collaborates with System Managers, Engineers, Sales teams, Project Managers, System Technologists, and service partners to complete these tasks. The department is on-call 100% of the time to support public safety customers. Job Description

This role involves post-sale installation, optimization, maintenance, and management of highly technical communication systems. The primary focus is on proactively maintaining optimal performance levels across integrated systems, addressing system-level alarms and errors. Responsibilities include system hardware and software installation and optimization, advanced troubleshooting, and managing system availability through routine maintenance and performance monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Expertise: Work with VHF, UHF, 700/800 public radio systems, 911/ECW/Airbus equipment, NG911 infrastructure, and NICE public safety systems (installation, optimization, and maintenance).

  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance, focusing on trend analysis and documentation to ensure proper system operation.

  • Problem Solving: Develop solutions for complex technical issues encountered during system implementation, upgrades, and support.

  • Technical Proficiency: Maintain familiarity with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques in transport, communications, and RF systems.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with system managers, engineering, project management, sales personnel, system technologists, and partners to design, implement, optimize, and cut-over advanced communication systems that meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • On-Call & Travel: Participate in on-call rotations (50%) and travel 25-50% within the T7 region as required.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of wired/wireless communication systems, including LAN/WAN, computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance (cabling, routers, switches, bridges).

  • Proficiency in P25 Systems, NICE public safety loggers, LMR RF systems, wired/wireless communication systems, networking equipment, and IT networks.

  • Strong knowledge of standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.

  • Good understanding of Motorola trunking, P25, and SmartZone systems.

  • Experience in configuring and testing Motorola two-way radio and subscriber products, channel banks, routers, hubs, and switches.

  • Ability to use equipment for optimization and testing of Motorola Two-Way radio (e.g., Communication Systems Analyzers, watt meters, TIMS sets, CPS, RSS, Antenna Systems Analyzers (FDRs), T1 test sets).

  • Computer Literacy: Highly proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.

Interpersonal & Self-Management Skills:

  • Strong self-management skills and "people" skills to collaborate effectively with Motorola's customers, subcontractor partners, Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and customer service teams.

  • Self-motivated and self-managed to perform duties with minimal direct supervision.

  • Ability to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.

  • Good interpersonal skills for working closely with internal Motorola teams and customers.

Certifications & Clearances:

  • Ability to successfully pass and maintain background checks and obtain security clearances.

  • Must have/keep a clean driving record.

  • CET required within 6 months of hiring.

  • FCC License and industry certifications are a plus.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract.

  • Leadership & Training: Performs troubleshooting at a sub-system level as a subject matter expert, striving for optimal system performance. Able to develop and present technical training and provide guidance in integrating new tools and solutions into team operations.

Education/Experience: Associate's Degree or EET, Technical Certification, Project Management, IT Certification, or Military Technical Certification. 3+ years of experience in Electronics Technician, System Technologist, System Manager, or Field Service.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Target Base Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.

Basic Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in one of the following: LMR, RF Systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Motorola equipment, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, Networking Equipment, IP Networking, Solutions Architecture, ASTRO 25, P25, WAVE VoIP, or Military experience.

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customers.
