Department OverviewThe Field Service Organization (FSO) is dedicated to implementing and maintaining advanced technical communication systems for customers. This involves a range of tasks including the deployment, optimization, and repair of various equipment such as infrastructure, NICE public safety loggers, 911/ECW/Airbus systems, subscribers, Microwave, Computers, Servers, and Network equipment, both for Motorola and external clients. The FSO collaborates with System Managers, Engineers, the Sales team, Project Managers, System Technologists, and service partners to achieve these objectives. The department operates with 100% on-call availability to provide support for public safety customers. Job Description

This role focuses on the post-sale life cycle of highly technical communication systems, including installation, optimization, maintenance, and management. The core responsibility is to proactively ensure optimal system performance by addressing alarms and errors, conducting routine maintenance, and monitoring performance. This involves installing and optimizing system hardware and software, as well as advanced troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Expertise: Install, optimize, and maintain public radio systems (VHF, UHF, 700/800), 911/ECW/Airbus equipment, NG911 infrastructure, and NICE public safety systems.

  • Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine preventative maintenance, with an emphasis on trend analysis and documentation, to ensure continuous system operation.

  • Problem Solving: Develop effective solutions for complex technical challenges encountered during system implementation, upgrades, and ongoing support.

  • Technical Proficiency: Stay current with the latest technologies and troubleshooting methods in transport, communications, and RF systems.

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with system managers, engineering, project management, sales, system technologists, and partners to design, implement, optimize, and transition advanced communication systems that meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • On-Call & Travel: Participate in a 50% on-call rotation and travel 25-50% within the T7 region as needed.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of wired/wireless communication systems, including LAN/WAN, computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance (cabling, routers, switches, bridges).

  • Proficiency with P25 Systems, NICE public safety loggers, LMR RF systems, networking equipment, and IT networks.

  • Solid knowledge of standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.

  • Good understanding of Motorola trunking, P25, and SmartZone systems.

  • Experience in configuring and testing Motorola two-way radio and subscriber products, channel banks, routers, hubs, and switches.

  • Ability to utilize equipment for the optimization and testing of Motorola Two-Way radio (e.g., Communication Systems Analyzers, watt meters, TIMS sets, CPS, RSS, Antenna Systems Analyzers (FDRs), T1 test sets).

  • Highly proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.

Interpersonal & Self-Management Skills:

  • Strong self-management and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with Motorola's customers, subcontractor partners, Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and customer service teams.

  • Self-motivated and self-managed, capable of performing duties with minimal direct supervision.

  • Ability to quickly resolve customer problems in high-pressure situations.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for close collaboration with internal Motorola teams and customers.

Certifications & Clearances:

  • Must be able to successfully pass and maintain background checks and obtain security clearances.

  • A clean driving record is required.

  • A CET certification is required within 6 months of hiring.

  • An FCC License and other industry certifications are a plus.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance for government contracts.

Leadership & Training:

Acts as a subject matter expert, performing sub-system level troubleshooting to achieve optimal system performance. Capable of developing and delivering technical training and providing guidance on integrating new tools and solutions into team operations.

Education & Experience:

An Associate's Degree (or EET), Technical Certification, Project Management, IT Certification, or Military Technical Certification is required. Candidates should have 3+ years of experience in roles such as Electronics Technician, System Technologist, System Manager, or Field Service.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Target Base Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.

  • 3+ years of experience in one of the following: LMR, RF Systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Motorola equipment, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, Networking Equipment, IP Networking, Solutions Architecture, ASTRO 25, P25, WAVE VoIP, or Military experience.

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customers.
