Position Summary:

Schweitzer Backcountry Adventures' (SBA) enthusiastic backcountry snowmobile guides are responsible for full-day and half-day guided trail tours in the Middle Fork drainage behind Schweitzer Mountain. Schweitzer participates in the Polaris Adventures Ride Program to provide machines with the ultimate performance and comfort. This position is perfect for an excited, friendly individual who enjoys being outside for extended periods of time while showcasing the unique features of Schweitzer's natural areas beyond the boundary lines. Safety and excitement are foundations for the guest experience.

Essential Functions and Major Responsibilities:
  • Complete a 'pre-ride' inspection of machines and trails to determine safe operations.
  • Provide clear and concise orientation and instruction for operation of snowmobile to all guests.
  • Act as a guide for up to 8 snowmobiles, gauging abilities, snow conditions, and other SBA tours of the day to determine routes.
  • Provide flexibility in tour length, location, and content based on varying degree of experience of guests' ability while providing assistance where appropriate.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures to ensure safety of guest and self.
  • Provide local and historical interpretations where appropriate along tour, time dependent.
  • Return machines into a 'ready for service' condition at the end of each tour.
  • Coordinates and communicates frequently with other SBA tours in the field.
  • Works in conditions that involve exposure to unusual elements and extreme temperatures.
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Shovel snow around upper lodge location
  • Provide basic diagnosis and repair of minor snowmobile defects while communicating with manager and Shop Maintenance personnel for immediate resolution.
  • Interface with Polaris Adventure Program's machine check-in/ check-out and damage forms
  • Provides basic first aid when required.
  • Provides backup support for other SBA tours in the field.
  • Supports marketing department with gaining media shots throughout the day.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts depending on operational needs.

Specific Job Skills:

License/Certifications - Idaho Outfitters and Guides License, American Red Cross first aid

Technical - Polaris Adventure App

Physical Capabilities - The ability to lift 50lbs+, shovel snow

Additional - Knowledge of local history

Education/Related Experience:

Minimum education required - High school diploma or equivalent. Guiding experience, a plus. Knowledge of local area history a plus.

Minimum time in related position - Some snowmobile riding experience required
