The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Director of Operations who is responsible for all aspects of the operations for our Distribution Services line of business (LoB). The position includes supervising and managing all operational resources allocated to the LoB including personnel and equipment. This position is accountable for the success and profitability of their LoB.

Key Responsibilities



  • Provide Leadership & Expertise - Exemplify, communicate, and conduct business in accordance with corporate values, policies, and procedures; recommend additions/revisions to existing procedures and work methods when warranted; and review projects regularly to address problems, monitor progress, ensure compliance of specifications, and safety/quality of work performed.
  • Keep Score - Monitor key safety indicators and quality of work being performed, ensuring that work performed by the division meets or exceeds contract specifications and IB Abel standards of quality; and monitor project performance to ensure that annual budget including capital expenditures are consistent with business plan.
  • Manage Resources - Monitor and manage utilization of equipment allocated to the regions; coordinate the allocation of manpower between regions; coach and provide expertise to projects and regions to assist in achieving company goals; and work with estimators, project managers, engineers and subcontractors to resolve project problems or opportunities for improvement.
  • Business Development Opportunities - Maintain relationships with existing clients and look for opportunities to expand or enhance services; develop new business opportunities and clients; and oversee and participate in the proposal and bidding process. Review proposals and bids for completeness and compliance with RFP and contractual requirements.
  • Financial Management - Review proposals and bids for completeness and compliance with RFP and contractual requirements; submit weekly reports detailing projected revenues, costs and gross profit at project completion; meet with Accounting monthly to review financial performance; and document field directives that change or alter the original scope of work.



Who We're Looking For



  • An acceptable combination of education and/or work experience within the Electric Utility industry (Electric Utility preferred) with Bachelor's degree in Business or similar preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience of progressive responsibility in Electrical Utility Construction, including demonstrated ability to lead and manage a business unit, including work acquisition and execution responsibilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications with strong skills in Excel, Word, and MS Project.
  • Local to Pennsylvania (preferable) but with regular travel to other offices, customer facilities, jobsites and yard locations for offsite meetings (flexibility to work from home when appropriate).
  • A "can-do" attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to collaborate effectively with various teams.
