Instructor - Incorporating Scientific Research

BASIC FUNCTION

The Belin-Blank Center at the University of Iowa seeks an instructor for the Incorporating Scientific Research workshop. This face-to-face workshop is intended to provide participants with an overview of scientific research principles, guidance on designing and conducting student research projects, and strategies for analyzing and presenting research findings. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions, hands-on activities, and practical exercises to enhance their understanding and skills in incorporating scientific research into the middle school and high school science classroom.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop workshop curriculum and activities.
• Utilize digital platform (Canvas) to communicate with participants and provide resources and materials.
• Provide supply request form, class description, and syllabus by the communicated date.
• Assist with managing the care and safety of the participants.
• Demonstrate professionalism and punctuality.
• Remain self-motivated, energetic and willing to be flexible in duties. Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
• Utilize good communication skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• a teaching license, or comparable expertise in the field
• prior experience working with school-age students
• evidence of the ability to implement highly effective teaching practices

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with Junior Science and Humanities Symposium or similar academic research competitions

WORK HOURS

• 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

LOCATION

• Belin-Blank Center Programs take place primarily on the University of Iowa campus.

RATE OF PAY

• $100/hour of instruction and preparation
• This position is not benefits eligible.
