Teach and coordinate developmental reading and writing classes and duties listed below.


Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.Coordinate the developmental reading and writing courses including but not limited to RDG-039 and ENG-119.
2.Train new adjunct instructors that are teaching Reading and Writing Developmental Courses.
3.Coordinate across Academic Divisions to prepare or revise guides for courses offered in their division and submit to the Division Chair or appropriate Administrator for review.
4.Teach classes assigned by the Division Chair and approved by the Vice President following course outlines approved by the college.
5.In cooperation with other instructors concerned, prepare textbook recommendations and submit to the Division Chair for review.
6.File with the librarian a bibliography of library books to be used in each course.
7.Prepare for the annual budget requests for instructional equipment and materials including maps, books, audio-visual aids, and other supplies and submit these requests to the Division Chair for recommendation.
8.Prepare requests for the purchase of new library books and materials as needed and submit these requests to the Division Chair for review.
9.Report attendance and grades as prescribed by theDean of Enrollment & Student Success.
10.Attend division meetings called by the Division Chair and faculty meetings called by the administrative officers.
11.Be on campus, in classrooms, laboratories, library, or office for not less than thirty hours a week and maintain a schedule of at least three hours on campus or approved location each school day.
12.Maintain at least five office hours per week as posted on the office door and as filed in administrative offices.
13.Arrive at the classroom prior to the scheduled class time.
14.Cooperate in the promotion of extra curricular activities by accepting reasonable assignments and encouraging student participation.
15.Serve on such committees for the betterment of the college as may be established by the administration and faculty.
16.Assist in registration as needed.
17.Consider the general and special needs of the student. Assist students and seek additional help from other college services when necessary.
18.Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the college and inform the President in writing of any problem that might have a detrimental effect on the college.
19.Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
20.Notify the appropriate Administrator well in advance of absences.
21.Advise students assigned by student services.
22.Demonstrate commitment to the teaching/learning process.
23.Focus upon student recruitment, retention and success.
24.Use a variety of methods and teaching strategies that reflect the different learning styles and needs of students.
25.Show an understanding of the community college philosophy including its unique ties to the workforce and its district.
26. Support team success through effective collaboration and participation.
27.Participate in development activities and maintain current perspectives in class presentations.
28. Engage in activities aimed at promotion of educational programs, Humanities Division, and Lake Land College.
29. Other related duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Masters degree Developmental Education in Reading and Writing
Experience:1-3 Years teaching experience required
Knowledge: Curriculum development, community college philosophy and population, and knowledge of teaching of reading
Skills: Teach and communicate reading and writing strategies at various levels, superior command of English language, excellent writing skills, expertise with multi-media technology
Personal: Versatility, positive attitude, enthusiasm, and self-initiative
Physical: Ability to perform general responsibilities in the classroom, ability to travel within the college district and to attend state and professional meetings
Other:

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED: Personal computer, PC environment, Windows platform, Microsoft Office, Internet software, Canvas LMS, presentation software/equipment

GENERAL EMPLOYMENT STATEMENTS:
A. Length of Training and Probationary Period: 3 years

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Masters degree in Developmental Education in Reading and Writing, preferred, or a Masters degree in English.
Experience Requirements:
  • At least one year developmental teaching experience required.

Knowledge:
  • Curriculum development,community college philosophy and population,and knowledge of teaching reading and writing.

Skills:
  • Ability to teach and communicate reading and writing strategies at various levels, superior command of English language, excellent writing skills, expertise with multi-media technology.

Personal Requirements:
