Purpose of the Role
The Construction Director is responsible for leading and directing construction activities within a major location or business function. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to project specifications and regulatory standards. Acting as a strategic and operational leader, the Construction Director drives initiatives that align with Worley's commitment to delivering sustainable change and supporting our ambition to become a global leader in sustainability solutions. This role integrates construction planning, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration to achieve successful outcomes for our customers and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and oversee all construction activities within a major location, ensuring alignment with Worley's business strategy and sustainability objectives.

  • Provide administrative and strategic leadership for project leads and construction teams, ensuring timely and cost-effective project completion.

  • Establish and implement strategic initiatives, objectives, policies, and procedures for construction operations in line with Worley's purpose and long-term vision.

  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, quality, and project management teams to ensure seamless execution across the full project lifecycle.

  • Monitor progress against budgets, schedules, and quality standards, identifying and mitigating risks to maintain performance excellence.

  • Lead initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and integrate sustainable practices into construction activities.

  • Mentor and develop construction leaders, supervisors, and team members, fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Act as a senior representative for construction activities, preparing and presenting reports, proposals, and updates to executive management and key stakeholders.

  • Build strong relationships with customers, contractors, and regulatory bodies to support project success and Worley's reputation as a trusted partner.

Qualifications / Skillset

  • University degree in construction management, engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and extensive relevant experience.

  • Proven track record of leading large, complex construction projects in the energy, chemicals, or resources sectors.

  • Recognized as a subject matter expert and thought leader, capable of providing strategic advice and consultation at an executive level.

  • Strong experience developing and implementing long-term construction strategies, policies, and objectives that influence organizational success.

  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and direct project teams and leaders across diverse, multi-cultural environments.

  • Skilled in contract management, project scheduling, cost control, and risk management.

  • Expert understanding of construction systems, processes, and tools, with the ability to implement new technologies and drive innovation.

  • Advanced communication and presentation skills, with the ability to inform and influence executive management, customers, and stakeholders.
