Meteorologist

MISO
401(k)
United States, Indiana, Carmel
Sep 20, 2025
Description

Weather has been and continues to be an important element of ensuring grid reliability. Like much of the energy industry, MISO faces a rapidly evolving grid with a different risk profile stemming from a high penetration of renewables. MISO's ability to accurately forecast weather conditions and translate accurate weather forecasts into effective load, renewable energy, and outage outlooks directly allows MISO and its members to prepare in advance and reliably operate the grid.

As a Meteorologist, you will provide forecast and risk assessments of weather, load, wind and solar generation to support control room operations and situational awareness (e.g., Unit Commitment and Operations under extreme conditions). You will analyze risks or uncertainties, and present risks and mitigation plans to management and forecast customers.

As a Meteorologist, you will be part of the Operational Risk Assessment team that prides itself in demonstrating commitment and collaboration, especially during critical system conditions. You will work with the control room to manage a changing operational risk profile seen with current and future portfolio evolution.

You will also have the opportunity to help build out a Weather Desk, create/expand MISO's risk dashboards, and work to improve MISO's load and renewable forecast accuracy and uncertainty assessment through data analytics and machine learning.

In one year as a Meteorologist, you will know you were successful if:

  • You can provide forecasts and risk assessments to control room operations and function areas.
  • Weather, load, and renewable forecast improvements or uncertainty measurements developed.
  • Risk prototype tools built for operators to access risk profiles and inform commitment decisions.
