Job Overview

The Women's Center Director provides leadership and program direction on all aspects of the Women's Center's mission. The Director envisions, organizes, and implements initiatives, programs, outreach campaigns, and other educational efforts to advance individual and community formation for women and students with marginalized genders at Georgetown. The Director oversees the graduate and undergraduate student staff, budget, communications, and other resources managed by the Women's Center, and supervises day-to-day operations of the Women's Center.

This position is a primary representative on issues, concerns, and inclusion efforts for women and students with marginalized genders. The person in this role collaborates actively with faculty, staff, and students who lead parallel and intersecting efforts to advance inclusion and support for women and students with marginalized genders. The position is designed to lead the campus's efforts to ensure the well-being of its women students, by making sure University policies, procedures, programs, services, and community members are informed by contemporary understanding of intersectional gender identity experience and current best practices in outreach, education, and programming.

This position is the primary full-time staff person attached to the Women's Center. The Women's Center Director provides leadership on all aspects of the Women's Center's mission.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide leadership for the Women's Center by directing the use of resources, including student staff, department, budget, space, collaborative partnerships, and other resources
  • Provide support, resources, and accompaniment to undergraduate and graduate students on issues related to women's identity, and the experience of women and students with marginalized genders at Georgetown University, particularly as it relates to student formation and development
  • Provide leadership, direction, oversight, implementation, and management of educational and outreach programs for the campus community that address individual and community needs of women students across a broad spectrum of topical realms
  • Serve as an ambassador of the Women's Center and the Division of Student Affairs to faculty, staff, departments, and other stakeholders on issues related to support for women students and students with marginalized genders
  • Generate strategies to support the formation of undergraduate and graduate students


Work Interactions

The Director reports to the Associate VP for Student Affairs [Future: Senior Director of Cultural Centers]. The Director serves in a community of practice with other Directors of cultural centers at Georgetown University, including the Disability Cultural Center and the LGBTQ Resource Center, and works collaboratively with these colleagues to provide projects to and receive support from the Program Coordinator for Cultural Centers. The Director interacts with many other faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, and students to identify focal areas for support, programming, outreach, and leadership, and to create and sustain collaborative efforts to address issues of individual and community needs for women and students with marginalized genders at Georgetown. This includes:

  • Consulting individually and in groups with students, faculty, staff, and alumni
  • Advising students and offices that support student needs (E.g., Student Outreach and Support, Health Education Services, Georgetown Scholars Program)
  • Chairing, convening, and coordinating committees and collaborative projects
  • Strategic planning for the Center, and alignment of the Center's strategic planning efforts with the University's mission and priorities, the Division of Student Affairs' strategic plan, and other institutional frameworks
  • Developing, implementing, administering, and assessing programs and services
  • Participating in initiatives to support the ongoing development of cultural competency and professional skills among colleagues and peers in the Division of Student Affairs and other departments


The Director of the Women's Center is part of the Director-level leadership of the Division of Student Affairs and collaborates with other department Directors on committees, projects, reports, and initiatives dedicated to advancing the vision, mission, and priorities of the Division of Student Affairs.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs, Women and Gender Studies, Human Development, or a related field is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time, professional experience in a position that works on issues of women's identity formation and community inclusion, and/or educational equity
  • Familiarity with contemporary understanding of post-secondary student formation, development, and growth, particularly with regard to intersectional identity development
  • Familiarity with issues likely to be of concern to women and students with marginalized genders
  • Familiarity and facility working within a decentralized higher education organizational context
  • Familiarity and facility working with students as an advisor, supervisor, mentor, supporter, and educator
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders on a broad range of projects
  • Strong organizational and communication skills


Preferred qualifications:
  • Advanced or terminal degree in a discipline related to women's identity development, human development, or higher education
  • Understanding of the mission, vision, and context of Jesuit and Catholic higher education, particularly with regard to contextual influence on the experience of women's identity formation


Work Mode Designation

This position has been designated as Hybrid, 4:1. The person in this role will provide primary staff coverage at the Hilltop Campus and periodic staff coverage at the Capitol Campus. Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
