Mechanical Project Engineer - Memphis, TN

Staffmark is hiring a Mechanical Project Engineer to join a leading manufacturer of conveyor and material handling systems serving the automotive industry. This direct-hire opportunity is ideal for an experienced mechanical engineer who enjoys leading projects from initial concept through design, fabrication, and on-site installation. Responsibilities



  • Lead mechanical engineering efforts on conveyor system projects from concept to final installation
  • Design conveyor equipment, structures, supports, and system layouts to meet project requirements and customer specifications
  • Create detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, bills of materials (BOMs), and fabrication/installation documentation
  • Perform mechanical calculations including load, stress, tolerances, and safety factors
  • Ensure all designs meet applicable OSHA, ANSI, ISO, and internal safety standards
  • Work closely with electrical engineers, project managers, and field teams for complete system integration
  • Specify materials, fabricated components, and purchased parts for procurement and manufacturing
  • Provide engineering support during fabrication, assembly, and installation phases
  • Oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and on-site installation to ensure design integrity is maintained
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives



What We're Looking For



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of mechanical project engineering experience (automotive, conveyor, or material handling industries preferred)
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, material selection, fabrication methods, welding, and machining
  • Experience with conveyor systems, industrial automation, and material handling applications
  • Proven ability to create and review complete fabrication and mechanical drawing packages
  • Familiarity with industry safety standards and mechanical codes
  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering and operations teams
  • Willingness to travel up to 25-30% for on-site support and commissioning
