Posting Summary
The Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is inviting applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The position requires a doctoral degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, or a related field by the appointment date (9/1/2026). The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate students and leading a creative research program in the area of Computational and Structural Biology. Applicants whose interests involve the application of machine learning (AI) approaches to protein structure prediction and analysis - particularly with a focus on problems of broad biochemical, molecular biological, cell biological, and/or genetics interest - are especially encouraged to apply. The research program of the new faculty member will complement existing departmental strengths in gene regulation, epigenetics, DNA damage and repair, cancer, aging, metabolism, circadian rhythms, neurobiology, membrane trafficking, cell signaling, and development.
The MBB Department is part of an expanding academic program within the Division of Life Sciences ( DLS) on the Rutgers Busch Campus. Related research institutes on the Busch campus include the Center for Integrated Proteomics Research ( CIPR), the RCSB Protein Data Bank ( PDB), the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine ( CABM), the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine ( IQB), and the Waksman Institute. In addition to departments in DLS, other key collaboration opportunities can be found on the Busch campus in the departments of Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, and Computer Science. Faculty members also work closely with departments and institutes on the nearby New Brunswick, NJ, campus of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School ( RWJMS), including the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and the Child Health Institute of New Jersey. Regarding graduate studies, MBB is part of a strong interdepartmental, cross-disciplinary graduate program in Molecular Biosciences. The location of these Rutgers campuses is within one hour of New York and Philadelphia, in a highly desirable suburban area.
