What to Expect
Join Tesla's Vehicle Engineering Test Group as a key contributor to commercial truck testing for Reliability, Durability, and Performance. You will execute vehicle-level tests both in-house and at external test labs, adhering to Tesla's rigorous test procedures and protocols. This role demands a strong passion for heavy commercial truck maintenance and testing, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.

What You'll Do
  • Operate pre-production Class 8 vehicles on public roads, private tracks, and third-party facilities, following detailed test plans
  • Support a range of Vehicle Engineering Tests, including Durability, Environmental, Strength, and Abusive testing
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Bedplate, Engineering Service, Vehicle Test, Tesla Service, Non-Destructive Test, Autopilot, and Design Teams
  • Collect and maintain high-quality data, working alongside Autopilot Engineers, Thermal System Engineers, Engineering Fleet Managers, and other Test and Design Engineering stakeholders
  • Manage a fleet of trucks and trailers to transport test vehicles and provide testing support
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety for testing and road operations, promptly reporting changes in vehicle performance or behavior to engineering teams and technicians. Maintain accurate records via manual logbooks or Electronic Logging Devices (ELD)
  • Utilize computers and adapt to new tools and systems for vehicle communication and stakeholder coordination

What You'll Bring
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement, a clean driving record, and insurability with at least 2 years or 200,000 miles of incident-free driving
  • Flexibility to work in extreme weather conditions, often in remote locations, with short notice, including weekends and holidays
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time to other Tesla facilities or remote testing locations to provide Test Operator support
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions to execute test cycles per defined procedures
  • Capability to work independently in unfamiliar locations with minimal oversight
  • Physical ability to repeatedly cycle vehicle components (e.g., doors, liftgates, steering, ingress/egress, switches) as outlined in test procedures for the duration of a shift
  • Competence in operating test vehicles, charging equipment, basic hand tools, and test equipment, including data and information recording systems, with a keen interest in following technical instructions
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other software programs, with strong computer skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and observational skills
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 100 lbs. occasionally

    Expected Compensation
    $30.50 - $51.73/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
