Role Summary

In this position, you'll work within Rivian's Charging organization to take ideas from conceptualization to off-tool parts, production, and beyond. You'll be responsible for the mechanical design, CAD, DFM, prototyping, and testing success. You'll be working directly with our electrical and engineering teams, product managers, program managers, supply chain, manufacturing, and charging leadership on the next generation of Rivian chargers. The opening will be located in Southern California (Irvine, CA, or Torrance, CA) and reports directly to the Sr. Manager of Charging Products.


Responsibilities

  • Contribute to product architecture, optimizing for things like user experience, product quality, reliability and serviceability, design efficiency, as well as assemblability and cost

  • Collaborate with our supplier base to ensure your designs are made on time and to specification, troubleshoot issues from the field, and guide suppliers through design evolutions and manufacturing improvements

  • Build 'Design for Manufacture' into every design, and tolerance strategies and engineering drawings that ensure the product works the first time. Your passion for quality in engineering will mean high levels of rigor in design and documentation

  • Work in FEA and alongside thermal simulations to ensure the success of your designs

  • Work on testing and validating your designs at the prototype level through to off-tool parts, and help with root-cause problems in the field

  • While primarily focused on Rivian's Adventure Network, you'll also have the chance to contribute to Rivian's consumer product engineering design


Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience; minimum of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field

  • Experience designing mechanical parts that interface with electrical components, or carry current

  • Professional experience designing to thermal and/or structural constraints

  • Experience with static FEA

  • Professional experience with CAD software, ideally CATIA

  • Professional experience with at least two of injection molding, casting, brake press, sheet metal, and stamping

  • Ability to think around corners and come up with creative solutions, with high levels of engineering rigor


Pay Disclosure

The salary range for this role is $85,600 - $107,000 for California based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs.

The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
