Position Summary Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will partner with the management team and investors to lead the company through a period of restructuring and growth. The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for providing overall strategic and operational direction to the company's accounting and finance function. This position will develop financial systems and processes that support the successful operation of the company's strategies and will establish policies, programs, and methodologies which ensure financial viability, consistent actions, financial practices, and results reporting. The successful candidate will have the ability to function at a broad-based, strategic level while being capable of driving detailed, tactical execution. The CFO will be expected to provide business and operational analysis, strategic insight, and tactical financial support to be an effective business partner and trusted advisor to the CEO, senior management team and investors. It is essential that he/she be able to develop innovative business solutions and strategies grounded in solid business acumen. The CFO will be responsible for increasing the company's ability to anticipate business issues and for driving good decision-making through sound financial management. They must have the ability to lead major organizational change initiatives to remain ahead of the competition. In addition to superior business acumen, it is critical that the CFO possesses and demonstrates the maturity, integrity, commitment, initiative, personality, and professional behavior to fully support the CEO and business effectively. The CFO will be expected to demonstrate this behavior as second nature, not only during day-to-day operations, but when dealing with the Board and all other stakeholders. The ideal candidate for this role will be a seasoned and execution-oriented finance leader with experience in evolving financial operations beyond core functions. This will include the evolution of the ways in which the company utilizes financial and customer data, and digital strategy to enable and support Pep Boys. The successful candidate will drive a culture of continuous improvement within the finance organization, with an internal reputation as being a function essential to further enabling the business. Responsibilities
- Business Partner: Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and a collaborative member of the executive leadership team. Actively participate in the development and implementation of the company's strategic plan to advance the company's growth and objectives. Provide guidance and assistance to the operations in identifying key drivers to their financial success. Analyze the capital structure to ensure it is in line with the organization's strategic plan.
- Team Leader: Increase the profile and credibility of the finance function as true business partners across all areas of the business. Ensure the team is well-equipped and appropriately staffed with strategic thinkers. Provide effective leadership, mentorship and coaching to the finance organization that fosters an environment of problem solving, efficiency, improved business practices and attracts and retains superior financial talent. Increase the finance department's analytic capability to further enhance insights and inform choice. Enhance the culture of accountability and transparency in both the finance team and the company.
- Operational Finance: Develop strong financial analysis and internal reporting that informs business decision making and allows the leadership team to have greater insight into key metrics of business performance. Anticipate and then engage proactively in ongoing operational and organizational initiatives to improve profit margins and return on invested assets and identify opportunities to continually improve the business financially. Contribute actively to the evolution and execution of the organization's strategic and operational plans including optimization of shareholder interest and investments in organic growth, new business development and growth via acquisitions.
- Financial Oversight: Responsible for overseeing financial planning and analysis, strategic planning, GAAP accounting, internal financial reporting, risk management, cost/productivity management, treasury, insurance, tax and M&A.
- Strategic Planning and Forecasting: Ensure that strategic planning and forecasting are key competencies in the organization. Develop and utilize forward-looking predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to ensure that the company is able to correctly assess information and reforecast implications quickly and thoughtfully.
- Investor Relations: Along with CEO, lead authorship of key investor themes and messaging. Effective communication with the Board, leadership team, shareholders and outside bankers is critical.
- Prior CFO Experience: Proven Chief Financial Officer with experience in a business environment of similar or greater scale. An executive with a well-rounded finance and accounting background.
- Industry Exposure: Retail experience nice to have, however, best athletes who come from enterprises known for developing outstanding financial talent with the agility to transition to new industries/businesses will be equally considered. Experience working for a blue-collar, labor-intensive business nice-to-have. Experience working in a growth-oriented environment strongly preferred
- Strategic CFO With An Operational Bent: A strong business-driven "operational CFO." Maintains a strong track record of having built, implemented and continuously improved systems (technical/financial and managerial) that support a strong operational finance capability as an organization matures. Forward-looking strategy, planning, and commercial orientation. Experience scaling a company profitably, with a focus on cost containment.
- Team Leadership: A proven and exceptional manager and motivator of people and teams with a track record of recruiting and developing high potential people and setting high standards for finance personnel across a performance-driven culture.
- Transformation Experience: Hands-on leader with demonstrated experience partnering with an executive leadership team to transform an organization (and the finance function) as a company scales and/or evolves and encounters new, industry-wide competitive pressure.
- Executive Presence: Experience communicating company performance and strategy to key stakeholders. Proven success in working with a Board of Directors, investors, banks, investment banks, among other external constituents, preferred.
- Academic Credentials: Strong academic credentials including a relevant undergraduate degree in business, accounting or finance. An MBA and/or CPA are desirable.
