Vantor is seeking a Software Engineering Manager of Platform Observability to join our Platform Infrastructure team, which is based in Westminster, CO.

Job Description:

Vantor's Platform Infrastructure engineering organization is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our observability initiatives for a large-scale engineering organization. This role is critical to ensuring our platforms, services, and customer-facing applications are highly available, performant, and measurable. You will lead a team of engineers focused on monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and visualization. We're looking for a manager that is inspired by mentoring a talented group of world-class engineers, scaling our platform efforts, and partnering with product to ideate and deliver exceptional products.

This position is located in Westminster, Colorado or can be performed remotely. Candidates must be U.S. citizens.

Your Project: Lead development and oversee the execution of our Platform Observability team. This engineering effort focuses on building and supporting the capabilities to enable our Platform Engineering team to develop platforms, services, and products with high availability, performance, and scale. Delivering Vantor's industry leading geospatial data and analytics to our customers. You will work with cross-functional engineering leads on delivering roadmaps, understanding requirements, and establish the frameworks to provide seamless integration of observability tools across our Platform Engineering teams.

What you'll do day-to-day:

  • Manage a team of senior engineers responsible for Observability systems

  • Work with Product Management to prioritize, scope and plan business milestones.

  • Build technical roadmaps to achieve business milestones.

  • Foster a positive engineering culture in line with Vantor's values.

  • Establish SLAs, governance processes, best practices and mitigation procedures across development lifecycle and sustainment for all Platform services

  • Ensure your team has the people needed to be successful.

  • Support timely delivery of engineering solutions to deliver business needs, while providing a transparent view to progress.

  • Actively coach and mentor team members in their careers.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and willing and able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree

  • 2 years of engineering management experience, or 2 years of proven tech leadership experience with the eagerness to take on more team building opportunities

  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience with software engineering experience. (A Masters degree may count for 2 additional years of experience)

  • Deep understanding of SLAs, SLOs, incident management, and large-scale service operations

  • Excellent grasp of software engineering principles, ability to guide and coach engineers

  • Demonstrated design skills for large scale, performant, and highly available cloud services or distributed systems

  • Has had exposure to multiple languages and frameworks as either an engineer or manager

  • Comfortable managing team members with different skill sets and technical areas of focus and expertise

  • Micro-service oriented architecture development experience and management

  • A solid understanding of software development methodologies and practices (SDLC, Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, etc.)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Development experience with current Java frameworks (e.g., Spring, Hibernate), and Python frameworks (FastAPI)

  • Strong background in observability technologies (Elastic, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, AWS CloudWatch, etc)

  • Experience with Kubernetes / EKS, service meshes, operating in hybrid deployments.

  • Development and architecture experience with AWS and related technologies

  • Experience working as a software engineer in an Agile environment (TDD, BDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, etc.)

The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.

* The base pay for this position within Colorado is: $122,000.00 - $203,000.00 annually. * The base pay for this position within New Jersey is: $122,000.00 - $203,000.00 annually. * The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $140,000.00 - $233,000.00 annually. * The base pay for this position within California is: $146,000.00 - $243,000.00 annually.

For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
