The Layout Engineer is responsible for developing and optimizing manufacturing processes based on customer blueprints and specifications. This role ensures the on-time production of investment castings that meet the highest quality standards at the lowest possible cost. The position involves troubleshooting process issues, providing technical support, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities



  • Develop manufacturing processes using engineering principles, process knowledge, and creativity to produce quality castings that meet customer specifications and deadlines.
  • Review customer blueprints and specifications to determine procedures, testing requirements, and routing sequences for metallurgical compliance.
  • Support plant initiatives to reduce scrap, rework, and overall casting costs through daily scrap reviews, SPC development, and cost-improvement projects.
  • Create and maintain detailed shop instructions for production processes.
  • Collaborate with customer representatives on new product development, cost-reduction initiatives, and program requirements.
  • Drive technology development to support plant efficiency and innovation.
  • Perform and manage all first-article dimensional layouts for internal and external qualifications.
  • Acquire data for probability studies and statistical analysis.
  • Program and operate blue light inspection systems for cores, castings, tooling, and 3D-printed products.
  • Conduct blue light scans for new tooling cores, wax pattern dies, tool reworks, and pattern/core dies.



Qualifications



  • Education: B.S. in Metallurgical, Materials, Chemical, Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a Layout Engineer.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, customer specifications, technical procedures, and regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for reports, correspondence, and presentations.
  • Proficiency in mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, ratios, and proportions.
  • Skilled in defining problems, collecting data, analyzing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical instructions and manage abstract and concrete variables.
