Description

Leidos is looking for a Systems Engineer focusing on Adaptation Engineering supporting our Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM) program. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless integration and functionality of air traffic management systems. Your expertise will contribute to the modernization and enhancement of the systems that support air traffic control operations.

TFDM is the surface management solution that will provide NextGen Air Traffic Control capabilities to improve air traffic operations in the National Airspace System (NAS). The TFDM program is a Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) NextGen program based on airport surface management that provides efficiency for both the airport surface and terminal airspace by providing a new and comprehensive integrated surface traffic control and management system. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Location: This position is in our Gaithersburg, MD office 3 days a week and 2 days a week from home office.

Travel: 50% travel is required for this position. Travel will be to various airports across the country as the TFDM system is deployed to 89 airports. The travel will generally be between 1 to 2 weeks in a given month.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate adaptation solutions into the TFDM system, ensuring compatibility and performance.
  • Requirements Analysis: Analyze and interpret system requirements to develop adaptation strategies that meet operational needs.
  • Configuration Management: Manage system configurations and ensure that adaptation changes are accurately documented and implemented.
  • Testing and Validation: Conduct rigorous testing and validation of adaptation solutions to ensure reliability and compliance with industry standards.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical issues related to system adaptation, providing timely support to maintain system integrity.
  • Documentation: Prepare detailed documentation of adaptation processes, configurations, and changes for future reference and audits.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively seek opportunities to enhance system performance and adaptation processes through innovative solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of proven experience in systems engineering, with a focus on adaptation engineering within air traffic management systems.
  • Proficiency in system integration, configuration management, and testing methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex system issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in documentation and system analysis.
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with TFDM or similar air traffic management systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to air traffic control systems.
  • Adaptation specialist with the knowledge to Air Space data such as
    • Airspace Restrictions
    • Special Activity Airspace definitions (SAA)
    • General knowledge of Airspace definitions such as fixes, routes, airways, IFR, NDB, Fix Posting Areas (FPA) etc.
  • Oracle / SQL skills for data manipulation
  • System Engineering Skills

Salary Range for this position: $100K to $110K
