Primary Purpose:
Provide high-level environmental compliance guidance and support for internal clients and assigned sites/facilities by advising and assisting site management in all matters related to air, wastewater, storm water, and hazmat/waste compliance. Manage and maintain site/facility compliance with environmental permits, plans, rules and/or regulations. Prepares standard practices, guidance documents and related technical training materials. Maintain and submit environmental data reports, coordinate environmental sampling, testing and/or monitoring, facilitate and assist with environmental compliance training as required by permits, plans, rules and/or regulations. Routinely, identifies, analyzes and interprets regulatory requirements affecting company operations in order to ensure programs/procedures/tools are compliant.

Represent and provide advanced support to clients in environmental matters as required during regulatory inspections, audits, construction projects, etc.; and respond to and report breakdowns, upsets, hazmat/waste spills or releases as required by permits, plans, rules and/or regulations.

Incumbents at this level are assigned 20 - 30 existing, manned and unmanned facilities such as substations.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Manage and maintain facility environmental compliance with environmental permits, plans, policies, rules and/or regulations for 20 - 30 existing, manned and unmanned facilities. Provide advanced guidance to clients to manage environmental issues.
  • Prepare compliance-related documentation, maintain and submit environmental data and reports as required by permit, plan, rule and/or regulation.
  • Coordinate environmental sampling, testing and/or monitoring as needed per specific facility requirements.
  • Facilitate and provide environmental compliance training and presentations to employees, contractors and internal clients.
  • Respond to and report breakdowns, upsets, and/or hazmat/waste spills or releases as required by permit, plan, policy, rule and/or regulation.
  • Represent clients in environmental matters as required during regulatory inspections, corporate audits, construction projects, etc.
  • Documents standard practices, creates guidance documents and related technical training materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in an environmental sciences related field, or equivalent training, experience and certification.
  • 5 years of experience in an environmental compliance discipline, preferably related to electric and gas distribution, substation construction and maintenance, facilities operations, and/or energy generation and storage.
  • Advanced understanding of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently/autonomously (with little oversight and/or support) and as part of a team or group.
  • Advanced analytical, organizational, and multi-tasking skills to manage and/or participate in multiple projects, often simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and relational skills to interact with clients, consultants, subject matter experts, legal and regulatory inspectors/agencies.
  • Advanced oral and written communications, including briefing/presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office and other standard software programs.
  • Proficient in (or able to quickly learn and use) different compliance software, emissions databases, and/or reporting tools.
  • Must be available, as needed, to respond to emergency calls 24/7, including weekends and holidays.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 8 years of experience in an environmental compliance discipline, preferably related to electric and gas distribution, substation construction and maintenance, facilities operations, and/or energy generation and storage.
  • Environmental compliance-related professional certifications.
