About the Role:
The General Dynamics Land Systems Summer 2025 Internship Program provides an opportunity for students looking to start or continue the transition from academia into industry. Our three-month internship assignments provide compensation based on area of study and class standing, and have the students embedded in key functional areas of our business, getting real-world experience and mentorship from seasoned professionals. As part of your summer experience, you will join our team and use your education, experience, and creativity to make an impact. The majority of our internship program positions will take place at our Corporate Headquarters Sterling Heights, Michigan.

As an intern in theFuture Systems and Capabilities group, you shall execute technical activities associated with system and subsystem development, build, test and evaluate defense specific technologies and components. This will include learning and executing Software and System Engineering principles, a core knowledge of military vehicle software/hardware design, and integration and test of systems and subsystems.The intern will participate in multi-disciplined teams of Systems Engineering and Software Engineering Integrated Product Teams with a spirit of creativity, innovation, quality and continuous improvement. With a focus on researching, studying, designing and executing advanced concepts you will enable GDLS to successfully capture, execute, and grow US-based programs of record, and position this set of emerging technologies to compete and grow in international markets.

Responsibilities To Anticipate for This Role:
This internship role is focused on the development of new concepts/algorithms, technology research, special studies, and advanced software and hardware product development for defense systems.
  • Learn and apply Systems and Software Engineering processes in the development of new vehicle and subsystem concepts.
  • Execute rapid concept development and conduct studies, proposals, and analysis of alternatives.
  • Perform analysis, definition, and management of system/software requirements, functions, architectures and interfaces and their allocation to product subsystems.
  • Perform integration, build and test/evaluation activities for prototypes (vehicles, systems, subsystems and components).
  • Research, assess and support the study of new technologies, capabilities and disruptive solutions.
  • Develop competitive solutions for proposal efforts.
  • Work closely in a team environment with Advanced Program Engineers.
  • Support initiatives to improve and optimize software processes and adoption of tools to enable our ability to go further and faster with R&D investments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Sought:
  • Pursing a Bachelor's degree majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Attained at least a sophomore status based on university/college's class standing requirements at the start of the internship
  • Preferred - GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be a U.S. Person (i.e., a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.)
  • Must successfully pass standard pre-employment screens and must provide an official college or university transcript from their school before their first day of employment.
  • Must be able to complete a minimum of a full-time, 3-month assignment
  • Background or class study in programming languages
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (e.g.,Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong interest and enthusiasm for emerging technologies.
  • Track-record of successful project and technology development activities.
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in new business development &engaging with internal & external customer leaders.
  • Demonstrated creativity / innovation.
  • A spirit of continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated initiative and organizationalskills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a teamenvironment.

Additional Information:
  • This position may require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance)
  • This position may require the candidate to be able to climb on/off, work in, and work around military vehicles is desired. Must be able to pass ASR test (Anthropometric Size Requirement for confined space)
  • Able to work overtime when required
  • Able to bring continuous improvement processes and methodologies to the position.
  • Limited travel maybe required
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 30 lbs.
