About the Role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities by providing compassionate, person-centered care and support. This position involves assisting individuals in achieving their personal goals, promoting independence, and ensuring their health and safety in a respectful and dignified manner. The DSP will work closely with individuals to support their daily living activities, social integration, and community involvement, fostering an environment of trust and empowerment. This role requires a commitment to understanding each individual's unique needs and preferences, adapting support strategies accordingly. Ultimately, the DSP contributes to creating a positive and inclusive environment where individuals can thrive and lead fulfilling lives.


Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and mobility.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans in collaboration with individuals, families, and interdisciplinary teams to promote personal growth and independence.
  • Monitor and document individuals' progress, behaviors, and health status, reporting any changes or concerns to appropriate healthcare professionals or supervisors.
  • Facilitate community integration by supporting participation in social, recreational, educational, and vocational activities.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and supportive living environment by adhering to health and safety protocols and organizational policies.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass background checks and any required health screenings.
  • Basic understanding of developmental disabilities and person-centered care principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in a caregiving role.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Training in behavior management techniques.
  • Post-secondary education in human services, social work, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with electronic documentation systems.
