Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an experienced and visionary Associate Dean for Student Services for the School of Engineering. This senior-level administrative position reports to and works closely with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education to provide comprehensive leadership and oversight for all facets of undergraduate experiences, promote student access and inclusion, and cultivate a supportive, vibrant community for engineering students. The associate dean serves on the Undergraduate Advisory Board and as a member of the senior leadership team at the School of Engineering. The associate dean also serves as the primary liaison, representing the school's interests to key Rutgers partners and stakeholders to enhance the overall undergraduate student experience. This position cultivates the continuous development and maintenance of strong, productive partnerships both within the school and across the wider university community. This is a unique opportunity for a leader in higher education to make a profound impact on the academic, professional, and personal lives of a diverse student population at a top-tier public university.
Among the key duties of this position are strategic oversight, leadership, undergraduate operations, student support and advocacy, including
- Works closely with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education to oversee core student service operations and programs, including academic services, student success, access and inclusion, recruitment and engagement, student development, and enrichment programs.
- Supervises a team of dedicated professional staff, lead staff training and professional development initiatives to champion a welcoming, collaborative team dynamic and a student-first culture at Undergraduate Education. Lead the planning, staff assignment, or coordination for school-wide events, campaigns, or other special programs for engineering students.
- Manages escalated student cases at the decanal level, including complex issues related to advising, enrollment, and campus policies.
- Serves as the point person for academic integrity policy and procedures, training faculty and staff, and adjudicating complex cases in collaboration with the Office of Student Conduct.
- Acts as a liaison with the Office of Disability Services, providing guidance on ADA-related student concerns to faculty and staff.
- Leads and foster initiatives related to the comprehensive development of undergraduate students, with a focus on leadership, professional growth, and ethical conduct. Oversee the administration and the fund allocation of the scholarship programs at the School of Engineering.
- Serves as the advisor for the Engineering Governing Council and provide oversight for all student organizations. This includes approving budget allocations, providing guidance and resources to faculty advisors, and establishing a culture of continuous development for student leaders.
- Serves on the Undergraduate Advisory Board and as a member of the senior leadership at the School of Engineering, providing strategic oversight on all matters related to student services, including academic policies, enrollment, student support and wellbeing.
- Serves as the primary liaison to key Rutgers partners, representing the school's interests on university-wide committees and working groups to enhance the undergraduate experience at the School of Engineering.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in higher education administration, psychology, engineering education, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of ten years of progressively increased responsibilities in a leadership or managerial capacity within a higher education setting.

- Direct experience in implementing evidence-based strategies to recruit, engage, and support a diverse student population, ensuring the success of students from a wide range of academic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Proven record of engaging with the most pressing issues in student development and knowledge of national trends and the unique challenges faced by engineering students.
- Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning, business workflow, and change management, with proven ability to plan, organize, and lead complex activities to achieve institutional goals.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, along with superior interpersonal and organizational abilities.
- An advanced degree in higher education administration, psychology, engineering education, or a related field is preferred.
- Understanding of a broad range of challenges that current and prospective engineering students may face, both in academic and non-academic settings.
