The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology is looking for an energetic, meticulous and dedicated individual to work in a Anatomic Pathology. A qualified candidate will have a specialized theoretical understanding and practical application in all aspects of Histopathology to include tissue processing, sectioning of frozen and EM blocks, and tissue staining. Responsibilities
70% - Tissue preparation for subsequent EM studies: embedding, ultra-microscopy sectioning and staining. Paraffin routine & frozen tissue preparation, embedding, and sectioning. Routine, SS (special), IF (immunofluorescence) and IHC/ISH tissue staining.
15% - Facilitates troubleshooting and resolution of routine technical issues. Effectively troubleshoots and maintains laboratory equipment, which includes all types of equipment. Assists in setting up, evaluating, and troubleshooting new techniques. Responsible for supply inventory management and procurement.
10% - Successfully carries out and maintains QA/QC procedures as per policy and procedures. Maintains statistical records and other related records pertaining to the laboratory. The incumbent will successfully carry out and maintain QA/QC policies and procedures and will ensure compliance and readiness for CAP and NYS periodic inspections.
5% - Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related health science field; or equivalent in work experience and education.
- Must hold one of the following licenses: Clinical Laboratory Technologists, Clinical Laboratory Technicians, or Certified Histological Technicians.
Preferred Qualifications
- HT/HTL (ASCP) registered or registration eligible.
- Experience with Special Stains, IHC, IF, Ultra-microtomy, Electron Microscopy (EM) tissue preparation.
- The incumbent must demonstrate excellent microtomy both on frozen and paraffin section.
Other Requirements
- Ability to work independently under limited supervision and willingness to work as a team with other laboratory workers to finish day-to-day tasks.
- Specialized theoretical knowledge & practical experience of various tissue types for subsequent histopathology preparation & sectioning, including: paraffin routine, frozen and ultra microscopy (preparation for EM studies).
- Experience with various laboratory equipment, including: stainer, cryostat, ultramicrotome, and safety equipment.
- Experience in training and coordinating the work of lower-level technicians.
- Ability to perform work in a neat, orderly, and safe manner and to enforce safety regulations.
- Experience in lab work that requires good fine motor control most needed in EM tissue preparation and teasing nerve fibers.
- Flexible with schedule.
