Nuclear Medicine Technologist - RWJBarnabas Health

This position offers the opportunity to work alongside radiologists, physicians, and multidisciplinary care teams to provide accurate diagnostic studies and therapeutic procedures that support timely, life-changing clinical decisions. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will combine technical expertise, critical thinking, and compassionate care to ensure the highest standards of patient safety, image quality, and service excellence. A typical day for a Nuclear Medicine Technologist may include:
  • Preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals while following all quality control and radiation safety protocols.
  • Performing a variety of nuclear medicine imaging and functional studies using independent judgment and technical expertise.
  • Collaborating with radiologists, physicians, and the healthcare team to provide accurate, high-quality diagnostic imaging.
  • Reviewing physician orders, patient histories, and clinical information to ensure appropriate exams are performed.
  • Preparing patients for procedures, explaining the examination process, and providing compassionate care throughout their visit.
  • Operating, calibrating, and performing quality assurance on nuclear medicine equipment to maintain optimal performance.
  • Maintaining accurate records for radioactive materials, including receipt, storage, usage, and disposal in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Ensuring compliance with ALARA principles and all radiation safety standards to protect patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintaining an organized, contamination-free work environment while ensuring adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Prioritizing workflow effectively to meet departmental needs while delivering outstanding patient care and service.

  • You are a graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
  • You hold a valid New Jersey Nuclear Medicine Technologist License.
  • You are registered through the ARRT (N) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • You maintain current BLS (Healthcare Provider) certification.
  • You successfully complete departmental orientation requirements.
