Assist with the care of orthopedic patients. Apply complex casts, splints, and other orthopedic devices under the guidance and supervision of attending medical staff. Maintain orthopedic equipment. Responsible for the use and ordering of all medical supplies, including managing and meeting department supply budget. Ensure the implementation of patient care orders and manages efficient patient flow in the cast room. Provides day to day direction and mentorship to other Orthopaedic Technicians. Adheres to policies, procedures and regulations to ensure compliance and patient safety. Participation in Compliance and other important training is a condition of employment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date. 3. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas. EXPERIENCE: 1. Three (3) years of experience as an Orthopedic Technician. Provides day to day direction and mentorship to fellow Orthopaedic Technicians in departmental workflows and job performance as needed. 2. Manages efficient patient flow of the cast room. 3. Responsible for assisting with technical/surgical procedures to include but not limited to casting, castremovaland splinting under the direct supervision of the orthopedic physicians. 4. Apply complex casting techniques to include patellar tendon bearing casts andmunstercasts. 5. Responsible for ensuring implementation of patient care orders. 6. Promotes safe and effective use of medical equipment and supplies. 7. Responsible for the use and ordering of all medical supplies, including ensuring compliance to departmental supply budgets. 8. Maintain a sanitary work area to include patient care rooms,equipmentand instruments; reports equipment malfunctions; order and stock supplies. 9. Promptly reports any unusual patient conditions, responses, or concerns to the provider. 10. Instructs patients and family members in proper use, care,applicationand removal of equipment. 11. Responsible for completing basic competencies in addition to departmental specific competencies. 12. Stays abreast of new trends and innovations within specialized field. 13. Direct day to day supervision of Orthopaedic Cast Technicians, Ambulatory Nursing Assistants, and Ambulatory Medical/Care Assistants.
