Sr. System Integration Mechanical Engineer

We are looking for a Sr. System Integration Mechanical Engineer to join Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis, the global leader in Raman spectroscopy, tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS), and quenched fluorescence (QF) instrumentation for laboratory, process, and manufacturing environments. Our laser-based analyzer systems perform high-performance chemical composition and concentration measurement of all phases of matter in any installation environment.

What is the role about?

We are seeking a Sr. Systems Integration Engineer with a solid foundation in mechanical and instrumentation design and practical experience with analytical instrumentation. This position is responsible for designing, creating, and releasing documentation to Manufacturing for custom analyzer systems (TSPs), which are used in global industrial process control applications, primarily within the Oil & Gas, Chemical, Biogas, and Hydrogen industries. You will work as part of our Systems Integration Engineering team to develop sample system modifications to meet customer needs, support Sales in quoting custom systems, and support customers during Factory Acceptance testing. You should have several years' industry experience and be comfortable collaborating with other engineering disciplines, as well as partners in manufacturing, quality, and service, to bring complete systems together. Working knowledge of electronics and instrumentation integration is a plus.

The position is responsible for the following for Custom Analyzer Systems (TSPs):

  • Design, Technical Drawings, and Documentation
    • Develop design of customized TDLAS gas analyzer sample system and release comprehensive manufacturing documentation to enable efficient production workflows.
    • Select components and materials suited to harsh industrial environments per customer needs.
    • Ensure documentation aligns with engineering, compliance, and quality standards and policies.
    • Design, build, assemble, and test prototypes to evaluate form, fit function, and integration for Product Marketing projects.
    • Develop and deliver "as-built" documentation packages for customer installations, including dimensional layouts, electrical schematics, and flow diagrams.
    • Develop and submit comprehensive Factory Acceptance Plans (FAPs) in alignment with project specifications and customer requirements.
    • Compile and generate detailed Factory Acceptance Test Reports (FAT) for customer approval, ensuring all test results and observations are clearly documented.
  • Collaboration and Support
    • Provide hands-on support to production teams throughout the custom analyzer manufacturing process.
    • Support Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) protocols and other system-level testing procedures.
    • Contribute conceptual designs and system cost estimates to Sales Support team for quotation.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand customer requirements during the proposal phase and translate them into actionable design inputs.
    • Serve as a technical resource for the Service Department, addressing post-shipment issues related to documentation, customer preferences, application specifications, or other system-related concerns.

Which essential functions will you perform?

  • Draft clear and accurate drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Prepare and submit drawings and technical documentation for customer approval.
  • Generate fabrication and assembly drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM's), inspection documents, and related materials and prior to release to Fabrication, load documentation to the Engineering Vault.
  • Provide oversight and quality checks on team members' work to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Prepare Analyzer Configuration Sheets with precise specifications, including required measurements, stream composition, validation requirements, and other special design considerations. Accuracy is critical, as this document directly supports Production and other departments.
  • Collaborate with Production and Purchasing to support fabrication and resolve issues.
  • Review and release "As Built" drawings, Engineering Orders (EOs), and Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to the Engineering Vault.
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering with sustaining projects.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for FAT processes in collaboration with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
  • Update and maintain FAT Test Plans and Report documentation to reflect process enhancements and evolving customer requirements.
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Test scheduling for the System Integration Engineering team.
  • Contribute to design of NextGen products in support of Innovation Engineering initiatives.
  • Lead training sessions on Analyzer System design for engineering team members and production technicians to ensure consistent understanding and implementation of system architecture and functionality.
  • Continuously develop and maintain application expertise in online analyzer systems, with a focus on Oil & Gas and Chemical industry requirements and standards.

What qualifications are needed?

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering. Equivalent experience, or similar technical degrees acceptable.
  • 3+ years of experience in the Process Analyzer Systems Integration Industry, preferably within the Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, and Green Energy industries.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and design practices. Applies expertise and imparts knowledge to others.
  • Working knowledge electronics or instrumentation to Production and Service teams is desirable.
  • Familiarity with hazardous area equipment design and certification is a plus.
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred), capable of developing designs from concept through detailed drawing release.
  • Effective at documenting and communicating design intent clearly and consistently; excellent verbal and written communication skills to interface with the customer and handle all issues tactfully and professionally.
  • Able to work independently while collaborating effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with ERP/PLM systems (Syteline, SAP) and PDM tools (SolidWorks PDM) preferred.
  • Must be highly organized and capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a strong attention to detail with the ability to catch and correct errors.
  • Must be reliable and dedicated, with personal integrity and high level of respect for all individuals.
  • Manages change processes in an agile and intelligent manner.

The listed range for this position is $115,000-$130,000 but the actual package offered may vary depending on different factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation for this position would include other elements which include an annual nondiscretionary bonus.
