About our group:

The Hardware Engineering design team develops mechanics for the next generation of high-capacity disc drives to service the ever-growing storage requirements of today's connected world. We are seeking a mechatronics/mechanical engineering student looking for an exciting and fulfilling summer 2026 internship to work alongside our team for twelve weeks at our Shakopee Minnesota design center. This is an awesome opportunity for you to gain first-hand experience and expand your knowledge base in the world of product design.

About the role - you will:

As an engineering development intern working in the Hardware Engineering group here at Seagate, you will have the opportunity to participate in some of the key areas of product design and development. You'll be on a focused project that will include SLDV measurement of the hard disc drive actuator resonance under different boundary conditions. You will utilize Python skills to write test script for SLDV test, e.g. meshing, etc. The results from this work will give you the opportunity to share the result and make recommendations to improve existing designs and for potential use on future products.

  • Strong affinity for a hands-on approach to engineering and interacting with various engineering disciplines.

Your experience includes:

  • Pursuing a BS in Mechatronics/Mechanical Engineering and will be returning to school in Fall 2026.
  • Able to work 100% on site during the internship.
  • Willing to conduct extensive lab measurement and testing using SLDV, Smartscope, Keyence and MATLAB station, etc.
  • Skillful in using Python to write testing scripts.
  • Willing to participate in routine evening meetings with Seagate Far East teams for mechanical FA discussions/updates.
  • Fluent in CAD software.
  • Experience with mechanical instrumentation and tools.
  • Prior experience or exposure in mechanical design/mechtronics design experience as a plus.

Location:

Our Shakopee campus is located 25 minutes southwest of Minneapolis in a setting with a rural vibe - it overlooks a horse racing track and stables, yet it has great entertainment venues close by as well. With wide-open spaces, the campus has plenty of space for running, biking, shooting some hoops or playing volleyball over lunch. The estimated base wage range for this position is $24.00-27.00/hr. The individual base wage is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Seagate offers comprehensive benefits to its eligible Interns, including, but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, and participation in the employee stock purchase plan. Seagate also offers Interns 12 paid holidays and a minimum of 48 hours of paid sick leave. The benefits for this position are based on a 24 to 40-hour-per-week schedule for a full calendar year and may differ depending on work location and tenure with the Company.
