Note: this position may be filled at the intermediate EHS Consultant level or the Senior EHS Consultant level dependent upon the selected candidate's experience.

EHS Consultant: This is the intermediate level of the EHS Consulting classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve more complex problems, in environmental, health, and / or safety areas of specialization, with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is complex and varied.

Senior EHS Consultant: This is the career/senior level of the EHS Consulting classification hierarchy. Employees at this level manage work in environmental, health, and / or safety areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in use of concepts and procedures. They identify problems, develop solutions and take actions to resolve.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the practices of assigned organizational EHS area, to facilitate compliance with company and/or regulatory policies and requirements in which to mitigate risks. Examples include providing intermediate-leveled regulatory-required and internal environmental or safety reports, intermediate-leveled support assigned environmental and safety training programs, intermediate-leveled support with the development and maintenance of procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with environmental and safety laws and regulations, and to ensure that Duke Energy work procedures address compliance guidance and helping track regulatory changes, legislative activities and industry standards

  • Starts researching, developing, and/or evaluating intermediate-level programs, policies or activities within the discipline they are assigned which have small impact or level of complexity; solves a range of medial problems and develops solutions using standard-moderate procedures.

  • Assists with providing information/consultation to management/assigned customers on existing EHS programs and policies. Examples include serving as an intermediate expert for advanced technical programs and compliance issues and supports company's environmental or safety goals, strategies, programs and processes. With assistance from a Senior or above, the incumbent develops and maintains procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with environmental or safety laws and regulations. Helps advanced teammates ensure that Duke Energy work procedures address compliance guidance. Assists with tracking basic regulatory changes, basic legislative activities and basic industry standards and helps advanced teammates assists with identifying needed changes to facility's compliance programs. With appropriate leadership guidance they may assist with working with federal, state and local regulatory authorities to interpret regulations and laws. Supports Duke Energy on various internal/external industry committees and teams.

  • Develops positive working relationships with peers, customers, employees and management to effectively complete work activities

Basic/Required Qualifications - EHS Consultant

Bachelor's degree in Health & Safety, Business, Science or closely related

OR, High School/GEDand 7 plus years relevant experience

Basic/Required Qualifications - Senior EHS Consultant

Bachelor's degree in Health & Safety, Business, Science or closely related and 6 plus years relevant experience

OR, High School/GEDand 10 plus years relevant experience

Desired Qualifications

Master's degree in Health & Safety, Business, Science.

Bachelor's or Master's Degree and 3 plus years work related experience

Additional Preferred Certifications, Licenses, or Qualifications:

Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

OSHA 30 /OSHA 510

Certified in First Aid/CPR/AED/BBP

Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

QEP
