SUMMARY

The Vice President of Purchasing is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a comprehensive purchasing strategy to ensure an uninterrupted supply of steel coils and oversee the procurement of all non-steel products. This role focuses on minimizing costs, maximizing efficiencies, and maintaining optimal inventory levels across manufacturing facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Solicit low cost purchasing opportunities from all available sources-domestic mills, imports, brokers and service centers in order to obtain best available cost.
  • Analyze both long- and short-term pricing trends and also assess overall availability in order to maximize the company's buying power and minimize inventory levels.
  • Monitor cost effectiveness of all prime and secondary purchasing programs to ensure overall value is being achieved and suitable price adjustments are initiated with vendors.
  • Direct, guide and support purchasing staff in order to achieve overall departmental objectives.
  • Visit and communicate with manufacturing facilities to review coil quality and application procedures to ensure that levels of inventory are consistent with production requirements and purchasing strategy.
  • Monitor inventory levels at manufacturing facilities and ensure that levels match sales and operational requirements.
  • Directs the development and management of company-wide purchasing programs, including supplier evaluation, cost analysis, and procurement for major capital projects.


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Candidate should be able to develop quality steel suppliers, who will meet or exceed delivery, quality and cost objectives
  • Excellent leadership skills, decision making and attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future steel availability and develop/implement appropriate purchasing strategies
  • Ability to negotiate cash discounts, volume purchasing discounts and special pricing
  • Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities for purchasing staff, including hiring and training employees, assigning and directing work and evaluating performance


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE



  • Bachelors degree and five years plus of purchasing management experience or an Associate Degree plus 8-10 years purchasing management experience
  • The military equivalent position will be recognized in lieu of education and/or experience.
