PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The primary purpose of a Technical Services Engineer (Associate) is to support efforts to ensure our technical insulations systems fulfill the intended purpose for which they are designed, and our systems portfolio serves the needs of our clients with the goal of long-term customer satisfaction and competitive advantage. Candidates for this role will acquire the knowledge necessary to support technical insulation applications across a wide range of service temperatures. Insulation systems include piping and equipment, tank base, spheres and vessels, above and below ground systems, pipe support assemblies, and other special solutions, and often require an insulation+ solution [e.g., condensation control, PFP, CUI, load bearing, etc.]. The Technical Services Engineer (Associate) will learn to routinely act as the conduit between different functional groups within the organization such as Operations, Sales, Marketing, and S & T, and interface with external stakeholders, such as specifiers, engineers, contractors and channel partners, to better understand and address the needs of our customers, define and close gaps that may exist in our systems offering / guidance, and to help identify and deliver new opportunities to support and grow the business.



This role will support the team's objectives while developing the broad set of skills necessary to become a Technical Services Engineer.



Reports to: Technical Services Engineer Lead (Band 5 or higher)

Span of Control: Individual Contributor


Location:WHQ (Hybrid). Open to Columbus, OH and Houston, TX



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific Position Accountabilities

  • Support the global specification core team through new specification review process. Core team includes global partners in TI sales and services, S & T.
  • Develop and document work practices, procedures and application specifications that serve as guidance for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support specification, installation guides and drawing development and maintenance.
  • Assist review of customer specifications and propose sound technical modifications that leverage the use of cellular glass insulation or other OC insulation systems.
  • Maintain customer specification database to support specification driven gap analysis and priorities.



  • Maintain sales support library including commonly requested information for sales.
  • Support analysis of insulation system requirements based on customer inputs, perform heat transfer calculations for time to freeze, personnel protection, condensation control, economic thicknesses, carbon footprint, emission reductions, etc. using sound industry principles and standards, and provide results to the customer in the form of reports, tables or other outputs.
  • Support insulation system development initiatives [e.g., PFP, CUI, etc.].
  • Support application testing related system improvement or development.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations on subjects pertaining to cellular glass insulation systems, industrial or commercial applications, or other related subject matter to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support guidance on the application of technical insulation systems to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support request for technical guidance by phone, e-mail and written requests.
  • Take an active role in technical committees that are directly related to thermal insulation or applications.
  • Support sales and marketing efforts through technical representation at tradeshows, industry events, customer visits or other events when strong technical representation is required.
  • Support formalized training of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Special projects related to technical service offerings. Ex: database creations, special testing, etc.



JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, Material Science or related field.
  • Must be willing and able to travel 15-25% of the time both domestic and internationally



PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Internship or Co-Op in a technical/engineering role or industry experience
  • Knowledge of mechanical insulation systems
  • Certified Energy Appraiser



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work across organizations to accomplish individual and team-based objectives.
  • Ability to connect with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Basic knowledge of materials, material types, properties and uses.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including technical writing and the ability to present to large and diverse audiences.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings / details
  • Execute and interpret complex calculations related to insulation properties or systems performance
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and exhibits the ability to communicate complex decisions.
  • Proficient in CAD, MS Office, Adobe, energy analysis software
