Position Overview


Primary Purpose of the Position
The Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance at Winston-Salem State University is seeking Adjunct Faculty to provide part-time instruction in undergraduate-level courses in Accounting, Business Law, Business Communications, Economics, and Finance either in person or online classes.

Minimum Experience/Education

  • Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Accounting, Business Law, Business Communications, Economics, or Finance.
  • Experience in the subject area is preferred
  • Professional certification or significant current experience may be acceptable in some cases.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and diverse populations.


Normal Work Schedule

  • Ability to teach weekdays and/or evenings
  • Online classes - must be available for virtual office hours
  • In-person classes - must be available to teach weekdays and/or evenings


Department Required Skills

  • Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Accounting, Business Law, Business Communications, Economics, or Finance.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to the mission of the University and College.
  • Must have strong communication and instructional skills.
  • Must be able to deliver course content aligned with institutional standards.
  • Must be able to effectively teach assigned classes, grade assignments, provide timely student feedback, and post grades adhering to university deadlines and policies.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Master's degree in the field for undergraduate teaching.
  • Recent college-level teaching experience. Practical experience in a business setting.
  • Demonstrated classroom management skills and effective interactions with students, faculty, staff, and administration

Describe the specific job duties related to this competency

  • Adjunct faculty will teach assigned classes, maintain office hours (a way for students to contact and receive guidance from the faculty member), grade assignments, provide feedback to students, and post grades while adhering to relevant university policies.
  • Suitably challenge, engage, serve, and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect.
  • Complete grade books, mid-term and final grade submission, learning assessments, and final exam assessments on a timely basis.
  • Respond to student questions on a timely basis.
  • Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.
