Probation Assistants are non-peace officer roles which provide probation-related services to staff, clients, and the public while also performing clerical tasks such as data entry, answering multi-line phone systems, and scheduling appointments. Probation Assistants work directly with probation participants by mentoring, counseling, referring, and when necessary, applying crisis intervention skills such as de-escalation techniques and cognitive behavioral interventions. Additional responsibilities include:

• Providing customer service to clients and the public in-person, electronically, and over the phone

• Overseeing and directing the activities of clients

• Counseling clients on probation policies, procedures, and expectations

• Conducting chemical testing, including processing urine and buccal swab samples

Co-facilitating delivery of curriculum to probation program participants and applying Motivational Interviewing and other evidence-based practices

• Entering data into justice system applications

• Assembling, ordering, and delivering supplies, materials, and equipment

 

Probation Assistants may be assigned varying work schedules, that include days, nights, evenings, weekends, and shift work. Their work is performed in both office and jail settings.

 

The ideal candidates for this position will have a passion for helping and serving others, strong customer service and communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, and possess:

 

Facilitation and/or public speaking skills

Computer and data entry skills

The ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Knowledge and experience working with evidence-based programming practices/concepts

Problem-solving abilities

A commitment to continued growth and learning

Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are desired, but not required
