What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Sales Tax Analyst with 5-10 years of experience to join our Global Tax Department and strengthen our sales tax compliance team. This role will be part of a dynamic team committed to being strategic leaders and trusted partners, creating value, mitigating risk, and supporting Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable abundance. The position demands expertise in sales tax compliance, collaboration across departments, and a proactive approach to process improvement and scalability.


What You'll Do
  • Own all aspects of indirect tax compliance in the United States and Canada, including providing monthly raw data and assisting with notices for external tax return preparers
  • Collaborate with sales tax advisory and tax technology teams to ensure data is clean, organized, and optimized for Tesla's growing business
  • Work with the staff sales tax accountant to manage, reconcile, and own general ledger accounts related to sales and indirect taxes, and assist in presenting reconciliations to non-tax finance staff
  • Manage the mailbox and tracking system for daily incoming sales tax-related questions from the business, ensuring timely responses to dozens of requests
  • Oversee and complete tax exemption certificates and reconcile sales tax on vendor invoices
  • Conduct research and provide support for additional functions within the sales tax team as needed
  • Identify and drive implementation of automation and other process improvements to enhance scalability of the sales tax team

What You'll Bring
  • 5-10+ years of indirect tax experience with an accounting firm or corporate tax/legal department, preferably with a Fortune 500 company
  • Experience with U.S. and Canada taxation and proficiency in using Vertex
  • CPA, CMI, IPT Sales Tax School, or equivalent certification preferred
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills with an interest in process improvement, automation, and AI
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics to colleagues outside the tax team
  • Self-starter who can organize, prioritize, and manage urgent and competing deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding work environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, Power Query, macros) skills a must. Preference for those with advanced large data wrangling skills using any of the following tools: Alteryx, Tableau, Knime, Power BI SQL, etc.
