The Communications and Operations Specialist will support Early Warning's External Communications team in delivering high-impact, integrated campaigns that reach both consumer and business audiences. This role combines communications execution with analytical insight, helping track media, social, and industry trends to uncover emerging storylines and opportunities that advance Early Warning's reputation. Working closely with the Communications and Operational Specialist based in our Washington, D.C. office, the position also plays a key role in driving operational excellence across the External Communications team, ensuring best practices, measurement, and reporting are consistently applied to strengthen the team's impact and efficiency across all of Early Warning's brands.

Overall Purpose

The Communications and Operations Specialist will support Early Warning's Communications team in delivering high-impact campaigns and building a best-in-class communications function. The position will support the development and execution of Early Warning's external communication strategies and drive operational excellence and best practices across the Communications team.

Essential Functions

  • Assists the Communications team in executing campaigns, tracking performance metrics, and support daily operational needs to help the department function effectively.

  • Contribute to communications campaigns by drafting press releases, FAQs and other media materials, help coordinate media outreach and monitor coverage.

  • Maintain communications calendar, in coordination with key stakeholders.

  • Analyze and package daily news coverage.

  • Support the handling of inbound media inquiries and assist in drafting responses or standard press statements.

  • Help maintain and update tools for tracking communications metrics and reporting outcomes. Monitor media, social and political trends that might affect Early Warning's business.

  • Research trends in the external environment and share insights to inform messaging and planning.

  • Stay informed of developments in the field of communications/PR to help develop and deploy innovative tactics.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining processes that support the communications team's efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Help manage external agency relationships, including onboarding, invoice processing, andbudget tracking.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education or experience is typically obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree.

  • 5+ years of professional experience in public relations, journalism, or a related field.

  • Prior experience working for a company with a strong consumer brand.

  • Prior experience pitching and working with the media.

  • Detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to organize, prioritize work and meet deadlines.

  • Exceptional project management skills, adept at maintaining multiple concurrent timelines with competing priorities. An ambitious self-starter.

  • Strong writing, copywriting, PowerPoint, and editing skills with working knowledge of AP Style.

  • Ability to drive operational excellence and consistently deliver timely results independently with limited guidance in support of multiple stakeholders.

  • Highly effective interpersonal skillswith the ability to develop effective relationships and trust throughout all levels of the organization.

  • High level of personal and professional integrity with ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.

  • Strong problem solving and consensus building skills.

  • Experience developing goals, KPIs, and campaign reports.

  • Background and drug screen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education and experience typically obtained through completion of a bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or public policy.

  • Experience working for a high-growth organization is a plus.

  • Experience crafting compelling consumer narratives.

  • Agency experience a plus.

Physical Requirements

Working conditions consist of a normal office environment. Work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive use of a computer and involves sitting for periods of approximately four hours. Requires visual acuity and dexterity to view, prepare, and manipulate documents and office equipment including personal computers. Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers. Compensation

The base pay scale for this position in:

New York, NY/ San Francisco, CA in USD per year is: $101,000 - $126,000

Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.
