Job Summary:

This entry-level position provides professional laboratory research and project support in the area of histology. The Histology Core Research Entry Professional will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Morphology and Phenotyping Core Facility, housed within the School of Medicine, Department of Dermatology, and the Gates Institute.

Primary responsibilities include performing procedures such as tissue processing, paraffin embedding, microtomy, and frozen sectioning of OCT blocks. The ideal candidate will be passionate about histological tissue processing and its applications in translational research aimed at developing advanced therapies and diagnostic tools. The position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to high-quality service. The candidate will collaborate with multiple research laboratories across the University of Colorado to support their tissue processing needs and must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strong communication skills to help advance the University's research mission.

Key responsibilities:

  • Grossing and preparing tissue samples for processing.

  • Receive training to perform services as part of the Morphology and Phenotyping Core to include embedding, microtomy and staining procedures.

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions

  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects

  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results

  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical test processes and evaluate the results produced

  • Maintain the core database.

  • Participate in all daily operations of the laboratory

  • Help to maintain laboratory manuals, including all laboratory protocols and policies

  • Manage specimen inventory and process accordingly per specific requests.

  • Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials and other items as needed

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information

  • Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs

  • Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in natural sciences such as anatomic biology, chemistry, or related field. Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in histology training and education.

  • At least 2 years of experience in tissue processing

  • HIPAA certification

  • Experience working with databases

Condition of Employment:

  • Must be willing, able and qualified to take HT certificate examination within 2 year of hire.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $46,274 - $58,861.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
