Hardware Design Engineer - Optical Solutions

Our Fremont site supports global clients with next-generation optical modules for 5G networks, leveraging continuous innovation in component integration, miniaturization, and manufacturing automation.

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our expanding team and contribute to the hardware design of advanced optical networking products. This role will focus on designing, reviewing, and improving a range of optical equipment and electronic products for 5G and other high-bandwidth data communications networks.

What You Will Do

  • Design, review, and enhance architectures for optical amplifiers (EDFA and Raman), CPU system controllers, line cards, backplanes, modules, sub-systems, and other electronic designs to meet all performance specifications and requirements.
  • Collaborate with product marketing and cross-functional engineering teams (optical, hardware, mechanical, software, process) to deliver high-performance, cost-effective, and robust products, ensuring efficient manufacturing
  • Manage product release cycles from concept through architecture, implementation, testing, debugging, verification, and volume production
  • Drive and recommend innovative solutions to meet customer performance, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Select components, generate schematic designs, create PCB layout instructions, and work closely with FPGA, software, mechanical, thermal, optical, and process teams to optimize designs
  • Perform high-speed signal circuit simulation using HFSS, ADS, or similar tools.
  • Complete board bring-up, debug, and validate electronic system performance; conduct experiments to characterize components and subsystems.
  • Document design processes and experimental/test results.
  • Develop DVT, manufacturing, assembly, diagnostic, test, and qualification plans; provide technical guidance for manufacturing issue resolution.
  • Resolve customer technical issues in collaboration with FAE, QA, and technical support teams
  • Work with global teams on new product designs.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of electrical engineering experience in Telecom, Datacom, or related fields
  • Proficiency with electronic design and simulation tools (OrCAD with CIS, Allegro, HFSS)
  • Experience designing high-speed boards
  • Knowledge of high-speed digital transmission and signal integrity

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Masters of Electrical Engineering
  • Experience EDFA and Raman optical amplifiers
  • Experience in designing and resolving ESD, EMI, Immunity and other compliance and safety related items

For this role, we anticipate paying $XXXXX - $XXXXX per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
